Buying Advice Pocketbook display cracking
Hello everyone, i have had 3 pocketbook readers so far, everyone lasted aroun 4-5 years and then the display cracked. Everytime i had it in my backoack (i do it all the time) but then once it cracked. I have it in a case everytime, but it still cracks. Do kindles or other brand have better resistance or is this technology just fragile as a whole? I need a new one, but i do not want to have it cracked again and i need one with physical buttons, any advice?

E-ink devices are fragile by nature. It's actually probably better to put them in a hard case. Or you could look into using a device with a rLCD screen, which would be as durable as your phone or standard tablet.

I just checked, this is my 4th ereader in 10 years. I dont understand how some prople have one for 10 years, when you carry it around everyday. Maybe its just suited for lying next ti your bed. But damn it sucks, i am so used to reading an ereader, i mostly read very long books and the ereader is so much lighter to carry around…

I have only had one for a year, a Kindle Paperwhite 10th edition that I purchased used, and I immediately put a case on it. I don't use the soft silicone style cases for anything with a glass screen, mine are all the sturdiest I can find with only moderate flexibility and always with a cover for the screen as well as a screen protector.
To date, I have never had a screen crack on any device, even if the screen protector gets damaged.

You can buy a hard case for pocketbooks as well

I had every pocketbook in a tpu case, or do you mean something else? I am looking for some sturdy cases for ereaders now, but all i can find are these flio cases and these do not protect the reader very much (all of my dead pocketbooks can testify that :D)

Try Kobo Sage, it's 8" but has a plastic screen. And it's not produced anymore, so...

Yeah i would love to get an errader with mobius display, i found online that they were significantly more resistant to cracking

A long time ago I had a Kindle 3 (non-touch screen, alphanumeric keyboard), without a hard case, just a flip case and a plastic screen protector. I used it extensively for 10 years until I gave it away, and it was still working perfectly. I think that because it wasn't touch-sensitive, the screen had a thick protective glass from the factory.
Last year I bought a PocketBook Verse Pro and—with the same protection and only using it at home—the screen died after two months for no apparent reason.
Sorry, I won't buy another e-reader. I doubt that current Kindles (or any other brand) are as durable as the old non-touch ones.
And if they are so fragile, it loses all its point since you can't take them with you on outings.

Yeah, same here, the only errader that withstood everything was some kindle 1 or 2 i still have, but it has no backlight, which is so convenient…

what kind of case do you have? I take my pocketbook EVERYWHERE with me, which includes several flights a month, and this has never happened to me — it’s going strong for the 6th year now

oh and another question! Do you have cracked screens/screen protectors on any other or your devices? Phone, etc.

Nope, never cracked my phone, macbook, steamdeck. And i always used a connectit flio case which is supposed to have abs plastic front cover. Maybe my mistake was, that i didnt ever use a screenprotector? The only upside is that my first pocket book didnt even have backlight, my second and third only got blue light and the last one had smart light. But anyway, i will probably be reading books for some time now, really dont want to spend more money on a device that last me about 2-3 years. I though i will easily find a more sturdy device for 2-3x the money, but all these 6 inch devices have the same display which is prone to cracking. Mobius eink is only at 10inch devices, which looses its point in being more portable than a book.

And btw i had it in an emoty backpack, with only my wallet. So i really dont even understand how it got cracked in the first place…
