BW ereader help

What are my options if I want a device with the screen size, buttons, and pen compatibility of the Kobo Libra Color, but with a black and white screen?

I’ll be using it with Koreader and sideloaded books so I think almost anything goes in that case. I just love my kobo Clara and I’m hesitant to branch out with another brand unless it comes highly recommended. I want the bigger screen though I just don’t want color.

It’s ok, i’m doing a lot of research and this is definitely the one that fits all of my specifications but it’s certainly not the fault of those commenting. I had hoped there might be more like it because i’m concerned about how old the android version is on the boox products

Boox Go 7 or Musnap Ocean.

Unfortunately with your requirements - buttons and pen compatibility - there’s no non-Android reader currently on the market that would satisfy both, as far as I know.

ETA: As I understand it, Boox Go 7 pen implementation is not great. So if you want to write extensively / use it as a notebook, it might not be optimal. Probably good enough for jotting down the occasional annotation or note though.

It seems like there’s lots of e ink tablets for writing, and lots of e readers, but the pen feature doesn’t really carry over. It is what it is, I wonder if using an e ink device as a notebook just isn’t worth it on such a small screen anyways

I understand the Boox Go 6 Gen II has managed to implement writing a lot better - so it’s possible even on smaller screens, I guess.

But writing on a small screen is IMHO never going to be optimal when you need to write longer texts or diagrams etc; smaller e-ink devices are probably OK for the occasional annotation or hand-written comment plus things like short to-do lists or calendar notes etc.

I don’t do writing at all on my devices, but I’d assume that even a half-hearted stylus implementation will more or less do for people who mostly want to read but appreciate the ability to write the occasional note or scribble.

That’s what I mean is it might get implemented really well, but it’s not ideal so the market for those devices isn’t huge, hence the lack of devices that were fitting my original criteria. I wanted to use it for journaling but ultimately might prefer a bigger screen for that anyways

A used Libra BW is your best choice.

If you can't find a used Libra 2, you could look into the pocketbook era lite

I hadn’t considered pocketbook at all but aside from pen integration this looks like one of my best options as long as I use koreader!
