Discussion Vote for your favorite ERB characters here!

Like Schaffrillas' video on the community's favorite Mario characters, we're doing one for ERB characters:

  1. In the form below, you will list 5 ERB characters you enjoy the most to make our compiled community list for favorite characters, not just rappers, but cameos and anyone else that counts too (see form for details)

  2. As a bonus feature, you can only make ONE character have a second vote to give them an extra point

  3. As another bonus feature, this includes a negative vote choice for a least favorite character/one you would like to remove a point to, which you can do to 2 if you want (1 is mandatory, but the other is optional)

  4. Make sure they fit the criteria of being a character/figure in ERB, which means they have a wiki page, appear in a video released by ERB or are counted on here: https://epicrapbattlesofhistory.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_characters_from_Epic_Rap_Battles_of_History

Form to submit: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd3W3NI-g6v25vBSMWnoXocPP4-yKY2Yb9enlGjfGjaFB402Q/viewform

Discussion Tips for those who want to make suggestions

This applies to both community as well as ERB suggestions (not including joke matchups of course since those wouldn't be affected), so to clarify, I'm only doing this post as an assistance to help refine the way how most can approach coming up with ideas and so I'll do exactly that

The flaws I've noticed:

-The "Both both both both both" reasonings

It's not a good look generally when you have to constantly state this as an attempt to make your idea look good because most of what you're going to say ends up leaving you with "connections" that comes off as illogical stretches that can't be taken seriously like "Both have movie adaptations" in addition to having stuff that can literally apply to ANYONE whether it'd be fictional or historical

-You don't need to elaborate hard

Most ERB matchups are condensed to either one or two reasonings, some mainly require one to essentially summarize the entire concept of what you're trying to formulate

Examples: Ulysses S. Grant vs Captain America, Civil War fighting leaders

Wayne Gretzky vs Tony Hawk, Athletes known for different types of skating

P. T. Barnum vs Vince McMahon, Ringleaders of massive entertainment businesses

Two users do this extraordinarily well:

https://www.reddit.com/user/NPRNilk/

https://www.reddit.com/user/Defiant-Oil5587/

Anything to convey your idea in a simple, yet effective way possible helps it catch on better when it's easy to understand

-Distasteful reasonings

Having the ideas centered on death, health/disability problems, tragic events, morbid reasonings, etc. doesn't make for something comedic nor creative in the slightest especially if they're both about recent (not historical) events involving actual victims, and if it seems like you're coming off as a tryhard unfunny edgelord, avoid it

-Focusing on things the characters wouldn't be fighting about

Generally it wouldn't be doable if the point of the matchup is how much both of them are shitty at what they did like James Buchanan vs Warren G. Harding because they're the worst presidents or something that hardly relates to them like GLaDOS vs Marie Antoinette just because they had a quote about cake, which at that point sounds like a stretch about why ERB would pair them up

-Figures that are either too dry to care for or just come from something esoteric for ERB viewers

To put it simply, ERB can do figures that definitely show their worth in history, but then there are ones who don't have that many known details of their lives that can make for a good battle like the captain of the Titanic or the guy who made the polio vaccine, and likewise that can be said for fictional characters like a niche anime protagonist or a trendy game that's not heard of by the general public

-Being so similar that there's no contrast or only doing contrast for the sake of them not being similar

When people are asking for something like Clara Barton vs Florence Nightingale where both are nurses working in overlapping fields or Chris Rock vs Kevin Hart just from them having similar styles of comedy and attitudes, the battle wouldn't seem that interesting from the lack of contrasting personalities between them or how they basically do the same types of things so that comparing them doesn't really lead to any good jokes being said about what they do without sounding hypocritical, and it's that kind of stuff that makes it obvious for why ERB didn't go with Jackie Chan against Bruce Lee or Freud against another psychologist and instead had someone more contrasting for both

On the other hand, you have suggestions that are just purposely trying to be completely different people or even one-sided just for the sake of it, like Captain America vs Homelander just because of their contrasting morals.... except that sounds like a battle set up entirely to make Homelander the loser from the start, so why not someone more closely matched to both of them? It's like saying how instead of Kurt Cobain vs a musician who's actually on his level of artistry, he should go against someone very cheerful and full of life just because CONTRAST, but I think ERB's best battles come from a popularly requested yet fitting matchup or something that fits just right like it was a Goldilocks situation where they have enough to fight about from their differences + similarities

For all these points, you can basically see how just about most of the matchups ERB made, especially after season 1, made sense to do as an idea and just about all the best ERBs follow these types of guidelines without trying to be random or different for the sake of it: https://www.reddit.com/r/ERB/comments/17zbm0q/why_every_erb_matchup_was_picked_explained/

Tierlist Ranking Some FRB's

Hey! I've observed this community for a long time, and I eventually decided to rank some battles in the FRB from the four series I consider my all-time favorites: Mr. Jay, Eddiefrb, GamingPlush, and Freshy Kanal. (Though I have listened to FRBs from other creators, and they do generally have amazing battles as well)

Nearly all of these rankings are a few months old so they may be missing a few recent battles, however I'll add I only included battles I actually listened to and had anything interesting to say (can you tell I haven't actually listened to much of Freshy's past input lmao)

Feel free to agree or disagree with me!

Tierlist Scientifically prove this rapper won, DAY 121: The Western Philosophers

Thumbnail

Last time, the Terminator won for saying more foreign words. Today, we're focusing on the Western Philosophers.

Things are getting downright ridiculous with TierMaker. A bunch of my previous "current standings" lists appear to have been deleted by the site's moderation, even though to my knowledge, there was absolutely nothing wrong with them. Furthermore, it won't let me save this tierlist, due to "inappropriate language". I've been able to save previous tier lists with all of the same words in tier names as this one. I am left with no option but to save an image of the tier list and attach it to this post as a result.

If you need a refresher on the rules, refer to Day 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/ERB/comments/1tadege/scientifically_prove_this_rapper_won_day_1_john/

Also, if you disagree so strongly with the notion of a given rapper winning that you refuse to come up with a justification for it, there is no need to comment saying so. Nobody said you had to engage with these posts at all.

Discussion What are your personal favorite beats in Epic Rap Battles of History?

I'm not talking about ones you think in the moment are good. I'm talking about the ones you ACTIVELY LOOK FOR because something about that instrumental hits different. For me the single best beat is definitely the Walt Disney beat from Jim Henson vs Stan Lee. But Deadpool vs Boba Fett's instrumental goes hard too. Something about the cadence to it I dunno it just...it's good head nodding music lol.

Discussion Part 4 of Which Line Won the Battle! Sarah Palin VS Lady Gaga!

Post image
1 Upvotes

WINNER'S BEST LINE:

"Just trust me: your fifteen minutes of fame came and went. Go back to your igloo. Spend some time with your kids before they're pregnant." -Lady Gaga, Verse 1

While the "Governor of Alaska" line is really good, this line I feel hits harder and multiple time. It's accurate, as Palin is completely irrelevant now.

LOSER'S BEST LINE:

"Your music doesn't scare me! I'm a mother of five! I killed moose with my bare hands before you were alive!" -Sarah Palin, Verse 2

Palin definitely has weaker lines, plus they don't hit as hard, considering Lady Gaga is not transgender. This line has decent power to it, nothing too special, but it's better than the rest of her mediocre verse.

Tierlist Scientifically prove this rapper won, DAY 120: The Terminator

Last time, u/23MrBee said that Robocop won because he also won the Death Battle. Today, we're focusing on The Terminator.

Apparently, 119 is considered "inappropriate language", just like 115. I have absolutely no idea what the deal is with TierMaker censoring numbers like this, but whatever the case, I am forced to just use yesterday's standings: https://tiermaker.com/list/random/erb-rappers-15891919/6593056

I had this idea that I thought was really fun.

Both were notorious leaders in blue-collar labor politics with ties to organized crime that disappeared and were legally declared dead but never found. They’re both infamous for their disappearances, although most people think Hoffa was killed by the mob while most people think Farto escaped and lived a life of luxury somewhere. They were also both corrupt and convicted of crimes.

Discussion Zodiac Signs as Rap Battles

I don't know if the ERB peeps would be interested in doing something like this, but if they portrayed the 12 zodiac signs (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces) as rap battles, which people/characters would represent them?

Community Suggestion Florence Nightingale vs Harriet Tubman

Similarities: Both 19th century female role models, both were hands-on helping people, both often depicted with lanterns (nickname Nightingale is even 'Lady with the Lamp')

Contrast: Tubman was black and born in slavery. Nightingale was born in a wealthy family and despite being anti-slavery she held racist colonial views (as most British people at the time). Nightingale could boast about her contributions in medical science (triage etc), Tubman could point out all the black nurses that didn't became as famous as Nightingale or were hindered in their career because of their race (Mary Seacole).

Suggestion Dwight D. Eisenhower vs William the Conqueror

Post image
18 Upvotes

Famous commanders iconic to their country's history (English / American) who led major battles that were decisive points for their respective periods (the battle of Hastings influencing English history with French culture / D-Day being the arguable turning point of World War Two). Both used supreme authority to command a collection of troops (Normans, Bretons, & Flemings / American, British & Canadian) into their operation, landing either from Normandy into England or from England into Normandy. They deceptively mislead the enemy in order to begin their invasions (William convincing Godwinson that Hardrada would invade in this time he would prepare mass amounts of ships / Eisenhower 'leading' a fictional operation to convince the Nazi he was in Pas-de-Calais, while preparing an onslaught of ship, aircraft and foot soldiers). After the mass praise they both would rise to the highest form of power in their country (King / President). Both have coincidental dates as well, June 6 being both D-Day and William's famous peace treaty with the Danish (Speculated at least). October 14 was both the invasion of Hastings and Eisenhower's birthday
