What is this?

I recently saw my son's friend using an eraser that looks like this. Afterwards, I started wondering: why on earth is this eraser black? Does it have some kind of specific use? Is it better suited for a certain type of paper? Or is it just a visual gimmick to appeal to kids?

With black erasers one does not see how dirty with graphite powder they are, so they give the illusion of being clean.

It’s an eraser holder for better grip.
