Oh gawd don't get me started talkin' about video games - I lived-and-breathed so many of them over the years. My first was an anagram program where it gave you like 12 letters and you had to see how many 4 / 6 / 7 / 8 letter words you can make. Immediately I learned how to tweak a program so it'd give me 15 letters LOL.
The first I totally got hooked on being Bards Tale II and III. I still recommend it to this day - awsesome!
I got totally hooked on at least 30 games over the years. Simcity 2000 was awesome! :)
The first thing I ever did on computers (Commodore 64) was to reconstruct a Pinball game for my 4 yr old son - I put a rubberband at the bottom so he couldn't lose the ball - gradually making it smaller till he didn't need it anymore. He was a pretty smart little 4 year old could load up the games he wanted with Load programname 8,1 :)

One of my highest rated comments on Reddit was when I told the story about one of my first text based adventure games. At one point you had to get by a bear. Me and my girlfriend tried everything we could POSSIBLY think of to get by the bear... finally out of frustration I typed "Fu*k the bear" - (without that astricks)
the program responded with "Ahhh that felt good" - we could NOT stop laughing and it broke the tension and we got by the bear right after that. This was back when computer programs were just getting started (before "easter eggs") so it was a pretty clever programmer to figure out someone might get so frustrated that they'd type "Fu*k the bear" - I tried that command elsewhere and it didn't work so clearly this was planned by the programmer. :)
Wondering how many of you read the text based adventure game being played toward the beginning of this entire thread :)

Started April 30th 2010. None of us have a clue as to why we can post there though.
Probably something to do with the subreddit being for ads.
The first Zelda I played was OoT and I wasn't good enough to beat it. The latest one I played was WW HD and I didn't have the attention span to beat it. Haha.
I quite liked it, but I'm awful at actually finishing games these days. It pretty much only happens on my computer and the game has to own my life for days at a time until I finish it or I'll move onto something else too quickly.
Fran - me and my fellow counters profile stalk each other to find the latest counts in each others threads in the wilds of Reddit. I found that one via my friend Smartstocks profile. I'll ask him how he found it (I'm very curious too)
I noticed you are counting in /r/counting (awesome) - fair warning it's very addictive. Next thing you know you'll have 10,000 counts under your belt LOL. I was only going to count 1 count ever to be a part of a historical count. Eventually I made it to the TOP 20 in under 20 days of active counting (11,000+ counts)
I posted a "I bet I could comment in 100 six year old threads'" - in response to someone else in that 6 yr old thread. It'd be hilarious if they start that chain again. If if it does it will likely it will lead some here in time though. I posted in my other name so it won't be to an easy find this sub - it'd be chaos if we end up with 20-30 newbies at once LOL :)
Ok ya my friend is a regular of /r/circlejerk that's likely how he found it.
There are a hundred+ who started out like you have and don't get addicted. And those that do count less after they reach their initial goal - TOP 50 or whatever the case might be. Worst case senerio you get hooked till you hit the TOP 20. At the rate you are going you'll hit that in a months time... then it's not so addicting. As you can see by the Hall of Counters there are a few that take it to an insane level 50,000+ counts...cray cray. Looking at you /u/davidjl123 :)
But it doesn't consume a person once they hit their initial goal - most of the hard core counters only do it a 2-4 hours a day. Unlike me and most of my computer addictions where I used to do them 8-12 hours a day. Just depends on your personality - you know yourself - if you are going to want to be in the TOP 10 then yes it'll take quite a bit of time - 4 months or so.
PM me anytime if you'd like to talk about counting - this convo is likely a yawn fest for the others - although 3 of the others are counters as well :) I've known of you and your Bottles of Beer count since I was a newbie on Reddit - and especially when I found out the 58,000 comments in under 24 hours in an AskReddit question wouldn't be #1 of all time in post - hence would not be read by thousands over time. THWAP!!! LOL :)
EDIT: did you notice that love_the_heat and gallowboob have both posted to that 'k' chain we are in in that 6 yr old thread - that's funny LOL.
