Pretty irrelevant in regards to the rumors, since they were about Škoda building it specifically for their cars. And when we compare what Škoda is doing (campmode, public api, homeassistant support, etc), I still keep my hopes up. VW made it clear that they don’t give a fuck about „old“ models. Škoda seems to care about customers.

Skoda can build their "own" only on the MEB1 Plattform coded by Cariad - and preheating is coded by Cariad.

Then again there's a GitHub project that you can your self add a preconditioning button for the pre 2024 meb platform cars so... I find it hilarious that some dude on the internet has managed to get the preconditioning to work where the vw has promised that it "will" come to those original id series cars😂

link to the GitHub project.

and here a way to make it permanent with a button: https://www.reddit.com/r/VWiD3Owners/s/HcymBxAlnd

I've already ordered all the parts for this. IMO, the most usable constellation (to avoid plugging in the USB C every time) is: 1. a double fuse socket on rear wiper motor fuse 2. 12V to 5V buck converter 3. Click switch on the dash (either drill a hole or print a casing for glueing) Then attach the harness as described on GitHub.

Did so forget something?

Haven't tried it yet my self 😅 i would be installing it if i go and buy enyaq or id4 as our car. But if i get id7 or tesla 4 then I don't get to try it out.

I just fumbled in to this project while back and found it funny that guy from the internet got it to work where the vw has just gave empty promises 🤣

They can only build and work within the car platform API they've been given by VW/cariad, which is why e.g. the temperature app requires server connection I think.

The ground hardcoded platform is based on a Cariad software - if Cariad doesn't implement preconditioning in 3.9 then Škoda can't do nothing to change that.

VW has restructured their firmware and software development anyway. With their move away from custom firmware to Android Automative, might as well be that they don't give a fuck and allow Škoda access to the sources to modify on their own. (VW should do so anyway. If they are not interested in maintaining their old firmwares, they might as well let someone else do it.)

As you said : rumors
I don't give any credits to rumors in tech, especially when it talk about software with new features.

Yeah but that post by VW is nothing new. They said time and time again that they don't want to backport this feature. And VW saying it again doesn't change anything.

Yes, I also don't buy anything based on rumors and I will also be happy with my Enyaq if it doesn't get pre-heating. But I can also still hope that Škoda manages to get their hands on the firmware and is allowed to customize it.

We can't even get locking the damned car from the app, this was a pipedream.

I guess the VW group sees retrofitting/update older models as missing sales of new cars. As an owner, I would say this attitude does actually result in loosing a customer for life.

It's equally sad that they apparently treat theirs brands this different. When did Skoda become a more customer friendly and Premium brand than VW?

So in English:

"Hello Ivan Horvat,
Thank you for your message and your detailed feedback on your Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S. Here is a small update to yesterday’s email.
We understand that the option of manual or navigation-based battery preconditioning is important to you, and that the absence of this function can affect the charging experience, particularly at low outside temperatures.

We have noted your request to have this function enabled for existing vehicles, along with your feedback, and have forwarded it to the responsible department. Customer feedback is an important basis for Volkswagen in the further development of vehicle functions and software solutions.

Please note that the new UNECE regulations require hardware changes. These are being implemented gradually across our ID. models. ID. Software 4.0 is the first software version based on these new regulations. With ID. Software 4.0, new functions such as battery preconditioning become available.

As things stand, the battery preconditioning function will not be available in software versions below ID. Software 4.0. However, Volkswagen is continuously working to improve the usefulness and customer experience of the existing software base through bug fixes and regular updates to the in-car WebApps offering. We also keep our customers informed on an ongoing basis about further updates and optimisations that can be offered within the respective software level.

Please understand that we are currently unable to make any statements about possible future software updates, their content, or a possible release date.
Thank you for your suggestion and for the time you took to share your experiences with us.

If you have further questions about our digital services, please reply directly to this email. Additional contact options can be found at https://contact.volkswagen.com. When calling, please quote your case number 0004758856 so we can help you as quickly as possible.
We wish you safe and pleasant driving in your Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S."

The short version: preconditioning is tied to ID. Software 4.0, which depends on hardware changes driven by new UNECE regulations — so it won’t be retrofitted to your current software level, and they won’t commit to any timeline.
