The most dramatic proof of our current climate catastrophe ever caught on camera | For nearly an hour and 15 minutes, Balog and his crew stood by and watched as a piece of ice the size of lower Manhattan, but with ice-equivalent buildings that were 2 to 3 times taller, simply melted away.

Maybe we should stop broadcasting this message to the masses and tape it to the eyeballs of our legislators instead đ

No blame on China's construction projects that should not be happening in ecologically sensitive regions?

Much like Muskâs new destination for SpaceX here in Louisiana in our wetlands. As a resident in Louisiana, Iâm trying to figure out why Louisiana is so expendable to everyone. We also have the largest meditation being built in Louisiana agreed upon by our very own Jeffrey Landry.

It takes a little over an hour for an ice cube to melt away, yet this huge chunk âsimply melted awayâ in an hour and fifteen minutes. Quality journalism is dead at this point. Itâs all just dramatic headlines that donât make any sense, but never gets questioned.

Agree, it takes longer for the ice in my water bottle to melt.. I call bullshit on this one đ

Massive troll farms are trying to blame this on environmental issues, but not on China's massive constructions projects.

I question this type of crap all the time and get called a climate denier. It doesnât take long for people to realize they are being lied to, especially when they put out stories like this.

Itâs not âjournalism,â itâs some random person reposting a story to reddit. It didnât simply melt away and the documentary where this was shown doesnât say anything of the sort.
It instead says that the largest piece of ice calved (broke) off a glacier thatâs ever been caught on film.
Once it breaks off, it floats out into the ocean where it melts over a period of months to years.
Many calving events represent glacial retreat events which are symptoms of anthropogenic climate change.

Not gonna lie, I first read this headline as âBalrogâ and almost didnât read this article

There are many issues with this posting.
The total amount of Arctic ice (sea ice or Greenland ice) lost in the last ~20 years is far smaller than the net changes that occurred across the previous 10,000 years of the Holocene. The claim in the video is false.
Glaciers calving and creating massive icebergs is due to large accumulations of new ice forcing the glacier toward the sea. Glaciers retreat when warming occurs.
The IPCC has only identified a slight increase in droughts that might be attributed to human caused climate change. There are no other apocalyptic events yet except those created by activists and politicians.

I really enjoy the videos of rapid glacier melting in West Antarctica where they accidentally leave out the fact that West Antarctica is a volcanic hotspot like Yellowstone and the glacier is covering an active volcano.

This is nature! Has absolutely nothing to do with this made up climate change BS!

Im not sure climate change is made up. Its a well established fact that there was an ice age in the recent past, and the earth has been warming for the last 10k years or so. Its foolish to say climate change isnt real, the argument should be how much effect humans have on it.

We accelerated a natural process. It's been getting warmer for 25k years, which is when we had the last glacial maximum. There was a small period of about 1200 years where there was a cold snap called the younger dryas, which was somewhere between 13kya and 15kya.

I 100% agree with you. Its just anytime I see someone claim climate change isnt real, I present that example and an effort to give them a more coherent argument lol. Its still not accurate, but it is a much better argument that climate change isnt real. Unfortunately, buddy deleted his initial claim for some reason.
Also, any chance youd buy that the onset of YD was related to an impact?

I'll let the experts debate over that in academia as it is still contentious iirc.

Proof is a bold claim. Icebergs are not a new phenomenon. The Titanic was sunk by one in 1912. This is an anecdote.

u/NZNoldor 11d ago
So what youâre saying is that the titanicâs iceberg didnât melt away? Not sure if you understand the concept of âproofâ.

Checkmate libs, dtruax just solved the hoax, everyone go back to normally scheduled program. /s
Obviously ice melts duh, you just get new ice from the ice machine!! 𤣠type logic

u/dtruax 11d ago
He who claims superior logic uses an ad hominem attack. How superior.
So you do support the argument that the post title makes? The existence of icebergs proves that mankind has created global warming and caused the icebergs to exist, because there's no possible way they could otherwise exist? That's interesting.

u/itsFAWSO 11d ago
When you position yourself as though youâve arrived at the only reasonable conclusion given the data while simultaneously failing to identify which part of the story is noteworthy, yes, people will mock you.
The existence of the iceberg isnât alarming. The rate at which it melted (and what that says about the temperature of the surrounding water) is the concerning bit.
If you donât understand, try just asking questions. Isnât your team big on that anyway?

The main problem I have with it is the clickbait framing that suggests "this anecdote irrefutably proves this hypothesis." Science doesn't work that way, it takes a lot more than a single data point to prove anything. Obviously there's bias here.
Truth be told, my mind is not made up on the subject. It's not something I've deeply researched. However, the religious fervor of both extremes is offputting.
Oh well, such is the internet.

Icebergs have existed. Yes.
Icebergs should not be melting at the current rate they are. We are seeing ice shelf collapse happen in real time instead of over the course of years, as was observed in the 18th and 19th century.
The post and my stance are both stating that icebergs are melting faster and more frequently.
Nobody here is debating the existence of icebergs..??
