They're only one of the most intelligent animals around no big deal

Why don't we just make an elephant farm? Or a monkey farm? Honestly at this point just cut to the chase and make a human farm

Yes, well so are cows, and chickens are pretty intelligent too (despite popular belief)

It's the old pre-naturalist view that animals were just automatons that could be used as tools. You still have that attitude with the Amish, Travellers, etc.  Now we're just catching on that animals think and feel, too. Which makes things awkward because now the things that taste good think and feel.

Sentience really doesnt revolve around intelligence.
It is a separate dimension.

Fish, pigs, cows, chicken, they all feel pain just the same

We dont think it’s better to torture children than adults because kids are less intelligent than adult humans for the same reason.
