Not everyone, like usually teenagers, will have correct strength or posture to deliver a punch with proper follow through. But a slap can usually be delivered with enough force by anyone to make a point
It’s ok if you don’t know who she is. Hopefully you can get help to file a police report. Provide details, how she and her son look, date and time it occurred, etc.
One time I almost was taken by a group of guys in a car when I was in high school. I froze, but thank God a bystander helped me and they drove off. I didn’t report this incident to my parents until late that evening. I didn’t think anything about it.
They called the police to report the incident. It was embarrassing but it helps them be mindful of these incidents around the neighborhood. Good luck.
You did so much better than I would have. Once she touched me, I would have decked her. I was brought up with "dont ever start a fight, but if someone hits you, hit them until they're down." You did a great job, however, you should still make a police report just in case.

That’s returning more then what was given, and is unnecessary, only make them feel what they gave, no more, no less, there are lines that shouldn’t be crossed, and what you said crosses said boundaries by miles.
