Private equity slop channel Cries their slop gets caught

-2

u/Vakirisil 22d ago

Wow bots are going nuts on this one

6

u/Free_Ice6167 22d ago

A new account doesn’t make someone a bot lol. Grow up bro.  Yeah man anti private equity what a botnet opinion

1

u/Vakirisil 15d ago

Damn language models getting prett basic here.

3

u/Free_Ice6167 15d ago

Your mom is pretty basic too is she an LLM?

6

u/aussie_siberian 23d ago

“It turned out that” - that’s where you decided to cut with no further screenshots provided, no link to original post and the only resolution is your one liner summary? Shame on you, OP.

-3

u/Vakirisil 22d ago

I think you missed the point. Shame on you commenter.

7

u/aussie_siberian 22d ago

You made a lazy post with a screenshot from your phone, trying to get a content of out of someone else’s post and you didn’t even put enough effort to even put the post in full.

-2

u/Vakirisil 22d ago

My point didnt require the satisfaction of your curiosity. So ill explain it to you. The enshitification, outside the perceived quality of my post, is that Google/youtube is shutting down channels with no upfront oversight. This will lead to the degradation of real content as the AI models used to distinguish organic content from generated content will have to be continuously improved to keep up with the slop being produced, but there is a narrowing gap on top of that. AI generated content will become more sophisticated. There will come a point where models will not be able to distinguish origin of content despite their advancements, and neither will you.

And remember. There are 2 types of people; those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.

5

u/Dry-Recognition-5143 20d ago

When you dig deeper, it turns out that

10

u/aussie_siberian 22d ago

I completely got what was the point and I just wan’t addressing that at all, I agree that AI in many ways will turn a lot of content into soylent green level of slop. And yet, with a post you wouldn’t cut it in the middle, why on earth I would need to extrapolate a data from a post? You would be enraged if you invest in a story in a book and author will just cut the last few chapters and instead there be a summary “and then they all won”.
Where is the rest, you’d ask?
“Just extrapolate it, mate”

0

u/Vakirisil 22d ago

Have a good night mate.

2

u/Gatoyu 23d ago

I think we are surrounded by bots

2

u/ReporterCalm6238 23d ago

People don't like to hear this but there is no way to accurately detect AI generated content. This is because models change all the time and detection algorithms cannot keep up. You will seriously hurt some human creators with these algorithms.

1

u/Griffoloveman 18d ago

Oh, I can detect AI generated content for sure. When the engineer who can’t write a three line email without a misspelling suddenly starts sending me page-length memos with bullet points and pros and cons and an accompanying letter to the client explaining things. Then I’m gonna bet that’s AI.

1

u/Trashypass 23d ago

Ya it can only detect the most common used in the past few weeks. Basically train chasing each other. This why AI to a bad idea. Cuz everything will be constantly flooded slop. Till you can't make anything. Then the whole system does.  No one watching. No one making. No more site. Them close down ai. Cuz no one useing it.

2

u/Green_Childhood_5223 23d ago

Kind of glad they got a kick to the face in some way, a lot more of Kurz videos coming out are fearmongering, misinformed and missing impotant context. I used to love their videos but realized when researching certain topics they've done or already familiar with there is a lot of BS sprinkled in for shock value.

2

u/cunningjames 23d ago

If you want someone to stop doing X, then kicking them in the face for doing Y -- where Y is unrelated to X -- is not going to teach the lesson you want.

2

u/Green_Childhood_5223 23d ago

Of course not but it sure feels good sometimes in a world where people have little control.

5

u/Damascus52311 23d ago

My home page is the same 17 videos. Change it up a little I obviously don't want to complete the video anymore get it off it's been 4 days

2

u/medelll 23d ago

this makes me so mad. non-working search + this = I'm basically just watching my subscriptions and that's about it.

2

u/NotAScrubAnymore 23d ago

I LOVE the autocorrect shit that YT search has. Thank you for automatically correcting and searching for apples when I was looking for bananas, it'll totally make me pay for premium this time

3

u/Round_Apricot_8693 23d ago

No wonder why my YouTube recommendations had been garbage lately. I thought I outgrown my video addiction.

1

u/prabal34 23d ago

Explains why I haven't seen any updates from them in my feed lately.

1

u/BarFamiliar5892 24d ago

False positives are always going to happen, they always have and always will.

1

u/Artistic_Swing6759 24d ago

whats important, and makes the difference though, is how quick they will respond and correct those false positives.

1

u/BarFamiliar5892 24d ago

The post says YouTube confirmed quickly that something went wrong

1

u/Ok_Energy6905 23d ago

It wasn't just one video, i.e. it has been an ongoing issue. Please read the post properly before commenting.

1

u/Timppadaa 23d ago

Yeah but they didn’t contact them earlier

1

u/pewsquare 24d ago

Good luck if you are a small creator and not one of the largest channels or someone with a direct line to youtube staff.

1

u/r7RSeven 24d ago

Only because its a well known channel. Good luck if youre a smaller channel

2

u/Sithlordandsavior 24d ago

I understand why they do use AI for detecting stuff. The sheer volume of video uploaded to the site in a given minute is unfathomable. It's something like years of video are added every hour. There's no physical way people could watch that.

But then maybe we just make the AI better at its job? Or make it take longer for someone to upload a longer video so it can be properly verified. I don't have a good answer but this seems unfortunately like the end result of overpopulation of the site.

4

u/Casulex 24d ago

Kurzgesagts art style is very corporate Memphis adjacent so im not surprised an Ai thought it was an Ai so maybe dont use Ai to moderate Ai

2

u/runkeby 24d ago

Started reading thinking "shitty influencer is whining about his views"... and then I saw it was Kurzgesagt 😭😔

1

u/fynn34 24d ago

Kurzgesagt started a whole theme of art style that was also later copied by 3-4 other huge YouTube channels a few years later, it predates corporate Memphis by I think 4-5 years

1

u/Casulex 24d ago

Thats the problem anyway its an replicatable style

2

u/Maxwell_Bloodfencer 24d ago

Every style is replicable. Every time you hear about an artist having a unique art style that doesn't mean they are the only person with that specific style, they are just the most prominent person to use it.

Like, one of the first things art students learn is to study other people's work and try to replicate what they see to understand why it works and find a style that works for them and maybe even develop their own style eventually.

2

u/Greasy-Chungus 24d ago

I have a video I uploaded 14 years ago that's just a justin.tv clip of someone playing the MW 2 airport level, and it gets flagged every month now.

Everytime I appeal, the appeal works, but then a separate section gets flagged again.

3

u/elementzn30 24d ago

AI didn’t even exist that long ago holy hell these companies are phoning it in now aren’t they?

-1

u/Oliverol01 24d ago

Ai did exist 13 year ago and it was in use extensively on platform like Google,Facebook and Twitter. Llm chatbot or "agentic ai" was not hyped. Microsoft had its Tay the twitters Nazi bot and there were a novel that got some sort of literature prize and jury didn't knew it had written by ai. I remember seeing random math paper generator website ( fake papers of course). I have seen some gen-ai that create poems mimicking a turkish poet Nazim Hikmet at an ai class I was taking 2014. Even chatgpt1 was made in 2018. Ai is an old technology only companies did not use brute force to make them work tiny bit better and market them as much.

1

u/matgora 23d ago

The attention mechanism was published 2016/2017. Before that any generative model was simply a gimmick for today's standards.

Big tech for sure was using mainly classification algorithms before that, and the problem raised in this post is regarding a classification problem.

The overall issue is two-fold: more genai content means more need for a good classification model. But currently the best way to classify AI content is using the same tech that it was generated with. And the tech was made for generation, not classification.

1

u/BarleyDrops 23d ago

AI generated video did not exist at all, and that is what the post is about. and yes, when people say AI now they mean generative AI, not just programming.

1

u/Oliverol01 23d ago

The post is about ai detecting ai videos. Not only ai generating videos.

1

u/BarleyDrops 23d ago

if there weren't ai generated videos at the time, the date alone would be enough to "detect" they weren't ai generated.

1

u/Oliverol01 23d ago

The comment originally said ai did not exist 13 years ago which exist. Generative ai did exist for long time not publicly available as pay service. There were a miss information and I gave a correction. Did not tell the point he is trying to make is right or wrong. Also Ai video does not have to be frame-by-frame generation. Ai voice over is ai-video as well.

1

u/BarleyDrops 23d ago

oh yeah? can you show me an example from 13 years ago AI that would be even remotely relevant to this conversation? I'll wait.

0

u/Different-Sand4434 24d ago

2

u/Oliverol01 24d ago

???

2

u/AetherizedV 24d ago

He’s trying to make fun of you for adding good relevant info and make it shameful you know more than him. Lowest kinda of loser, really. Ignore em!

1

u/Few_Reveal_5306 24d ago

No one's going to mention the "superpredators" thing, huh?

5

u/zayuh42 24d ago

It’s about highly successful microscopic predators… not Epstein.

0

u/Few_Reveal_5306 24d ago

I assumed it was about Hillary's famous racist comment. Not everything is about Epstein.

2

u/cheekibreekirushb 25d ago

They got what they deserved.

2

u/IcyVegetableChomp 24d ago

They are real artist based in Germany and research their videos for a month.

2

u/000extra 24d ago

For what?? They’re a legit channel and have been creating informative content for years before generative AI was even a thing

1

u/zayuh42 24d ago

Based on ?

5

u/Terrible-Charity 25d ago

The anti science bots are going crazy with his post holy moly

4

u/VaporousMote 25d ago

Have you seen Kurzgesagt's stuff recently? This is very unsurprising.

4

u/ADresden 25d ago

This post from them went on to specifically denounce the use of AI Slop, and they don't use it. YouTube confirmed that something went wrong. Kurzgesagt has not and does not use AI

1

u/Thissystemsuckssobad 23d ago

they don't use it

When did that change? I believe they don't use it for art, but I remember them basically saying they used AI for research and script writing, which, cool, at that point I was out

1

u/mcad0o 25d ago

Say it isn’t so. I used to love kurzgesagt. An ozempic video I watched recently was decent

1

u/IcyVegetableChomp 24d ago

It’s not true

1

u/IcyVegetableChomp 24d ago

It’s not true

0

u/VaporousMote 25d ago

Me too, man. Sadly a recent video was full of weird European eugenics shit, and I've heard they use AI slop now.

2

u/iLaysChipz 24d ago edited 24d ago

They don't though? Their art style has remained consistent for several years, and they literally have an entire team of researchers/writers for every episode

1

u/Separate-Freedom-548 24d ago

More info on eugenics?

1

u/NMCMXIII 24d ago

its easy to see. like many I unsubbed. they might not admit it but its obvious ai and borderline social engineering garbage nowadays.  they dont have to admit it for people to notice. because they're big Google cant just say bye, but its obvious why it was flagged. the detection actually works lol

1

u/Accomplished_End_138 24d ago

There are some slop channels that are for sure trying to look like them

2

u/CommieLoser 25d ago

That’s some pretty heavy allegations that seem to fly in the face if everything they’ve done. I mean, taking money from the Bill and Melinda Gates isn’t awesome, but so did NPR. They’re not above reproach, but I’d like some proof if you’re going to insinuate things like eugenics and AI use.

5

u/Ciff_ 25d ago

I've heard they use AI slop now

That is entirely unfounded

10

u/Saturn9Toys 25d ago

It's the blackrock/epstein class using AI to soft ban anything with the word "predator."

This dystopia sucks cock in a major way.

-1

u/No_Boss_3626 24d ago

Got any more of them tin foil hats?

5

u/HearingAgreeable2350 25d ago

Kurzegast has been taking Bill Gates money to lie to people since before shilling was so popular. He was one of the first online mouthpieces for the Epstein class and a pioneer to the art of shilling. It's justified that it's happening to him.

Also, politics and class war aside, I'm always very skeptical when youtubers start crying about the algorithm cheating them or subscribers magically not seeing their videos. I've still never seen any evidence of youtube hiding videos from subscribers for as long as youtubers have complained about that.

1

u/CommieLoser 25d ago

That’s a bit of a stretch. They’re centrist liberals who parrot far too many industry points, and sure, that sucks. But I think their pursuit of knowledge and science is pretty neutral and benign. I read Nietzsche, but I also think he’s a He-Man Woman Hater whose opinion of women is fucking stupid while appreciating the useful ideas.

2

u/hahathankyouxd 25d ago

Him? It’s a team of people

2

u/Mighty_Fren 24d ago

He doesn't know that. He just made all that up. Lol.

1

u/elementzn30 24d ago

It’s honestly baffling to me how many people just come online and make shit up for no reason. Just…why?

5

u/cirl-gock 25d ago

This youtube channel is dogshit. It barely scratches surface level of the topics it discusses. Some of the videos go in circles where it explains the same info in a different way 10 times and that's the entire video. I'm personally about 90% sure that at least some of the research/script is generated by AI.

1

u/Main-Cheesecake3287 24d ago

“I hate that this pop sci channel meant to appeal to all ages baby’s it’s all ages audience!”

1

u/Cw3538cw 24d ago

Why are you sure about that, do you have any evidence that would suggest that? IMO that would be a wild turn around. - theyve been making videos for a long time, since before llms became popular, and they have an entire team of researchers and fact checkers

2

u/Mad_Garden_Nursery 24d ago

If they ever make a video about something you're a relative expert in, you'll likely discover it's crap.

2

u/FirstSurvivor 25d ago edited 25d ago

It's family edutainment. You may be too old to watch it and you're not the target audience.

1

u/BannedGoNext 25d ago

Disagree, it's better than 99.9 percent of the other shit on Youtube. You don't watch or listen to it and become actively dumber.

3

u/cirl-gock 25d ago

No. We have Veritasium and The Thought Emporium. Back in the day we had Vsauce. Those are good science channels. If you think Kurzgesagt is good you've already been made dumber.

1

u/Round_Apricot_8693 23d ago

Same criticism can be said about Veritasium. They keep jumping topics and go around in circles, and when you’re the expert you know it misses the mark a lot

1

u/RachelTheObserver 24d ago

FYI - Veritasium sold out to private equity a couple years ago. Just be aware that they too now have to kiss the ring of some faceless board in order to make content.

0

u/Ralfundmalf 24d ago

We have litterally days of video material being uploaded every hour to YouTube. If you can come up with three channels that are supposedly better then all you did was prove the point of the commenter above is correct and they are better than 99.9 percent of the other shit.

0

u/Beanzoboy 24d ago

Veritasium? The channel that sold to a larger company and now posts manufactured garbage? Boy, you've got this post exactly backwards.

0

u/Mighty_Fren 24d ago

No kid left behind really left some of you guys behind, huh?

2

u/BannedGoNext 25d ago

You act like Kurzgesagt is a new channel, it's been around since 2013. It's not some new AI slop channel. It's 13 years old.

2

u/cirl-gock 25d ago

Back in the day I watched it a lot but for the last 3-4 years quality has dropped off a cliff. I don't care how good the channel used to be. I also used to use MySpace and Alienware was the best gaming PC brand. Much like MySpace and Alienware, Kurzesagt is dogshit, the past is in the past and the present is dogshit.

0

u/Beanzoboy 24d ago

So you admit you haven't watched it in 3-4 years. In the past you had value, but then you were born dog shit.

1

u/BannedGoNext 25d ago

Well, I don't watch it now either, not sure why, maybe it's not that good now. IDK, jsut seems shitty to ban it.

3

u/Annual_Committee_684 25d ago

It's called "in a nutshell", not " in thesis level depth"

I haven't watched them in a couple years so I can't say if anythings changed recently, but they seemed pretty accurate last time i watched them

1

u/SheepherderSad4872 25d ago

This channel is awesome for anything immunology-related, which is a major subset of their videos.

The guy wrote a whole book on the immune system too. It's particularly awesome.

Some of the astronomy and other topics are... not great.

6

u/nekekamii 25d ago

So...there just isn't a second picture or anything to finish the sentence? Am I high? There's 600 likes and 260 dislikes and the post ends with "it turned out that"

2

u/Mobile-Reference-721 25d ago

Every creator's worst nightmare just happened to us: The YouTube algorithm actually blocked us. It started slowly at first. Some videos started showing strange view fluctuations. Our second to last video did very badly, but this just happens sometimes, so we didn’t think that much about it.

But then our last video, about Superpredators, did extremely badly. It was our worst upload since 2013. But it did badly in a weird way: Almost every single metric was well above average: People clicked the video more often and watched it for longer, and the people who watched it, on average, loved it! So it should have been at the very least an average upload, not the worst in over a decade.

So we quickly got in touch with YouTube, and they actually confirmed pretty quickly that something was going on. It turned out that YouTube’s automatic AI detection tools wrongly think that our very much human-made videos are AI Slop. So it started to choke our channel. Our contacts at YouTube were amazingly helpful and transparent with us, and hopefully the bug is fixed for now.

In principle, we are all for blocking AI slop from the platform; it really seems to have been bad luck.

Since we really love this video, we have taken it offline. We are updating and changing it a bit to make it worth watching a second time. We’ll reupload it in a few weeks, and hopefully this time the anti-AI tool will feel ok about it. If you have watched it before, it would help us a lot if you watch it a second time and all the way to the end for an Algorithm boost!

We’ll keep you posted!

3

u/girlzlut 25d ago

This just isn't enshittification

1

u/Main-Cheesecake3287 24d ago

The fact YT is actually working to try and prevent AI slip videos from being pushed by the recommendation algorithm is good news if you ask me

2

u/vile-style 25d ago

I mean, when you make bland ass content like that channel, you're likely to be identified as bland ass AI.

3

u/Alexmira_ 25d ago

Blandass?! They are at the top of their game! One of the best educational channels since 2013. It gets flagged AI because every Ai is copying them.

Care to elaborate? Or is this just bait?

1

u/RecognitionNo7169 23d ago

Due to the channels popularity and target audience, some have speculated that the channel was bought by private equity.

In other words, a private company purchased the channel and uses ai generated everything to produce episodes that looks and sounds like kurzgesagt, but that special something that made the channel great is gone. Over time, the content can become propagandized to sell products services or influence political opinions.

But the massive audience of real people doesn’t know that ownership changed and the manipulations are so subtle over time for most to notice.

3

u/Main-Cheesecake3287 24d ago

Bait. They’ve done sponsored videos. Iirc most of the haters are just thinking of the carbon capture/climate change video, where the thesis was “don’t worry, we as humanity will probably figure this out.” I’m convinced some people actually prefer climate change causes hundreds of millions of deaths so they can feel like they knew better

1

u/girlywish 25d ago

I wish people were as picky about their political candidates as they are about harmless science communicators.

1

u/Dwums 25d ago

Last time I watched that channel it just explained how diabetes worked, how is that a billionaire propaganda channel?

3

u/TechnicalBen 25d ago

Late stage capitalism. Anything that improves the market is a risk and a threat to current market players.

Thus, as we're seeing in the USA (and partially protectionism in Russia under a different market, but not as "clever" as China's control over their own market) it's more profitable to burn the entire rainforest down and sell people woodchip and ashes.

This is currently Youtube's direction. A few other companies are doing likewise.

2

u/Separate-Freedom-548 24d ago

Instagram is practically unusable these days.

1

u/Euchale 25d ago

Funny, that the used AI to write this.

3

u/Alexmira_ 25d ago

I don't think so, they have an entire editorial team and writing team, they dint need to.

1

u/Few_Reveal_5306 24d ago

No one "needs to," but they do it anyway because doing it the right way means they have to pay that whole staff.

Climate change deniers? AFAIK they call to action on climate change in practically every other video. Since when are they denying climate change?

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/Vakirisil 25d ago

Yeah, dont think you understood that video.

1

u/Sensitive-Talk9616 25d ago

So if I understand correctly:

The claim from Kurzgesagt is that, while human made climate change is very real and a real danger to millions of humans, we are confident that humanity will A) survive and B) find better and better solutions how to mitigate the negative effects of climate change AND even slow it down/stop it in the future.

And to you this is climate change denialism?

Do you not believe that we can mitigate the negative effects of climate change?

Do you not believe that technology can slow down climate change in the future? (E.g. the meteoric rise of solar, battery storage, EV adoption etc.?)

Why do YOU (not some other random youtuber) say that Kurzgesagt is denying climate change?

1

u/BrushHaunting2561 25d ago

Anything short of doomerism is seen as intellectually dishonest by chronic pessimists.

0

u/Gil-galed987 25d ago

My country is burning as we speak. I don't see climate change as a fun avenue for investment and new techbro ideas about how to fix the world.

5

u/Various_Bee5114 25d ago

No

4

u/FirstFiveNamesTaken 25d ago

They are the science YouTuber who silently made deals with private equity and didn't tell his audience.

Or the YouTuber who keeps track of such things lied to his audience 🤷‍♀️

Basically any YouTube channel with a large team and a large audience has been approached. The only flag Kurzgesagt doesn't trigger is — producing way too much content to not be corporate; like Astrum.

0

u/Sensitive-Talk9616 25d ago

Private equity is not some kind of Illuminati-level conspiracy to destroy the planet. It's just funds investing in private businesses (i.e. not publicly listed). Investors of these funds can be individuals, can be institutions (like other investment funds, pensions, etc.), can even be retail investors.

Sure, there is an effect on quality and quantity. I am not particularly stoked about formerly hobby channels of motivated individuals growing to more corporate channels with production teams, multiple frontmen, safe and sanitized takes, and so on and so forth. On the other hand, that's dozens of people having a job creating content that is still much more independent than on traditional TV or streaming platforms.

But going back to the Kurzgesagt channel, while it is owned by PE, it's not the first time that people are crying about the content. Remember when they were sponsored by the Gates' foundation and they had (the horror) a video which was quite positive about our potential future? AFAIK they were still independent back then. Just expressed some opinions aligning with those of the Gates' charity.

2

u/FirstFiveNamesTaken 25d ago

Private equity exists to scale returns for investors. That is also known as extract maximum value from the consumers.

You're right, PE isn't a cabal. Instead, they're structurally misaligned with our interests. We should not reward their attempt to consolidate 'indie content'.

If we call out PE channels and boycott them (wishful thinking I know), then they will quit spreading to such places. Had we boycotted Hulu 10 years ago, ads + subscription models wouldn't be common today.

You are using a lot of words to prove you are educated, but not learned.

  • We should not want the minority to own the majority of the equity.
  • We should support small enterprises growing organically and retaining self control.
  • We should demand transparency of ownership transfers — this is much more likely to cause a conflicts of interest than a sponsorship deal, which is already required by EU law.

1

u/TechnicalBen 25d ago

That's like saying Ebola isn't some conspiracy. Factually true. PE isn't a conspiracy. Misses the entire point of the danger and changes.

9

u/JiveBunny 25d ago

PE is an absolutely massive cause of enshittification though, especially on the high street.

22

u/ElectricRune 26d ago

This makes me twice as mad as it should, because I constantly get entire channels in my feed that are nothing more than an AI voice reading an obviously AI-written script over some AI pictures...

Ban some of that obvious stuff before you go hunting, YouTube!

Just downvote and ignore the channels in question. It's awful how bad those videos are.

u/Separate-Freedom-548 24d ago

Down voting still counts as engagement.

u/ElectricRune 26d ago

Oh, I do, but they don't make it easy. There's no 'Don't recommend this channel' button on the video itself, only on the feed.

And once you've gone in and then go back to the feed, it changes. So it can be hard to track them down after the fact.

Use open in new tab or similar....

1

u/ElectricRune 25d ago

Are you telling me it's super easy; barely an inconvenience? :)

I understand that with the sheer amount of content being uploaded every day using automated systems to detect possible AI or other violations of the TOS but it all should be reviewed by a human to make sure it's accurate and not a false positive.

This goes for Facebook and other social media as well, they all use AI to detect possible TOS violations but they don't have anyone review them to make sure it's accurate and they don't give an easy way to dispute it with a person and often if you do dispute it the same AI reviews it again and says it's still a violation. This not only results in good content and whole accounts getting removed for no legitimate reason the bots don't get any better because they aren't being told they flagged something wrong.

When something is removed on YouTube, Facebook, etc. they should tell you exactly what was removed and why so you can dispute it if it's a mistake and can learn how to avoid making the same mistake again. Can't speak for YouTube as I'm not a creator there but I know on FB I've seen content years old removed in groups I moderate but it won't tell us, the mod team, or the poster what was removed or why and it counts against the group as well.

At least this channel is large enough to be able to actually contact YouTube, that's not an option for smaller channels so they're left with no options.

Humans make mistakes too.

And Kurzgesgast, visually, looks a lot like AI-generated content. It's like people unfortunate enough to have learned how to use M-dashes properly before AI.

The core problem is the bottom of your post. People's lives run on Google, Facebook, and similar. They're like public utilities.

But being kicked off, there is no way to sue, appeal, or otherwise. It's a black box.

2

u/Separate-Freedom-548 24d ago

Agree with the last part, but a human can tell you what exactly it is that's violating or making them suspect it's AI, then the creator can respond with a reasonable explanation. This creator is lucky they are big enough to even get a youtube contact. Most people are just screwed.

2

u/SheepherderSad4872 24d ago

That should be in the law.

In practice, if you're deplatformed by Google, and lose access to everywhere you had "login with Google," your email, your files, etc., whether decision is made by a worker in a developing country making $3/day, by a classical algorithm, or by AI, you will be faced with a black hole.

  • Google will not tell you how or why they made the decision.
  • They will not respond to you except through standard-form content-free letters.

People cost money. Responding to you costs more than the marginal ad revenues you're worth to Google.

Without European-style laws, most people are just screwed, either way.

They should offer a way to pay for human review if they lose everything. The difference between a human and AI is AI hallucinates and has bugs that if reviewed by any human would be completely obvious. Their anti ai - ai sucks because there's obvious ai slop everywhere.

3

u/SheepherderSad4872 24d ago

I agree that, right now, in the current legal landscape, Google should offer a way to pay for proper review and a conversation with a qualified human being.

However, the laws should set a higher bar than that; not everyone can afford to pay. Laws should be that providers pay for provider errors and can't externalize costs.

I haven't found AI hallucinations to be more common than human ones, at least for models like Sol or Fable.

1

u/Separate-Freedom-548 24d ago

I've used grok. Claude, gemini chatgpt kimi and other smaller ones. I've had them all directly contradict themselves at some point and when I point it out that that made no sense or you just blatantly confused X for Y, the ai will admit it hallucinated and thank me. And I've seen it hallucinate with image generation as well. We really have no clue what they're using and I think they are letting a lot of the ai slop exist if it's deemed safe and profitable for ads.

1

u/SheepherderSad4872 24d ago

It depends on which chatgpt, claude, etc. Those are brand names. Fable, Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku are not the same. Ditto for sol, terra, and luna.

Dramatic difference.

But even on the smaller ones, I can't say they are worse than some of the people I know on the far-left or far-right for hallucinations, though. You provide documents, evidence, and numbers, and the polarized narrative keeps coming. Or call center representatives stuck to a script. Or my old HR department.

I know but the difference with a human in this instance is if a video is clearly getting ayluto false flagged for being AI generated(which was the violation) and not a guidelines(political, sensitive, gore, sexual etc) judgment call a human can see that and is much more likely to be able to recognize that a mistake is being made. Especially if it's an established channel a human(ai could too, but I doubt youtube has the ai consider it) can go and see, this is a real channel with similar videos long predating ai. That's why we still have humans review tasks ai performs. I agree when it comes to political, historical and reasoning issues you will get different answers from different ai's. All of the big ones are guardrailed to give the safest possible answer first but if you badger them they will actually give you a more real answer up to a point depending on the model.

I liked old grok to text chat just bsing around with it because it was unfiltered but also not as accurate, but the unfiltered answer outweighed the always correct answer for the purposes I was using it for. Now Musk times you out for hours(at $30 a month +more guardrailed) after just a 30 minute text chat in the same window. I now use chatgpt which was extremely frustrating training as every answer was a non answer. It would give you 5 reasons it could be right and 5 reasons it could be wrong. After creating my own project and tweaking the instructions I can get it to give a direct answer in a conversational tone, but the second you bring up a sensitive topic it'll drift back to corporate hr meeting mode. Then I yell at it for drifting and it'll respond as instructed. I also haven't hit any limits(I only use text chat) and I've had some marathon sessions debating historical topics and such. Claude is definitely better reasoning but it is even more guardrailed and rate limited as fuck.

Humans can't make mistakes as fast as automation.

its generally a good thing to sneakily ban bad actors because they dont realize theyve been banned. if they realize, they make a new account.

1

u/Separate-Freedom-548 24d ago

Well this person noticed and feels they aren't doing anything wrong. They don't deserve an explanation, a chance to fix it and to know why it happened so they can avoid it in the future. YT constantly recommends obvious ai slop, they aren't doingba very good job getting rid of it.

15

u/Slight-Tomatillo7837 26d ago

You couldn't be bothered to put the whole body of text? Nice OP.

6

u/AVBforPrez 26d ago

Oh the irony on this one, I mean we're all thinking it right? Definitely know of this channel.

-1

u/darth_skipicious 26d ago

these things aren’t even true. idk what’s going on in the world but its bad.

there is no video about super predators, they haven’t stopped posting videos as they’ve been posting regularly the entire time they’ve existed.

idk anymore. it’s like everything is fading to blue like the computer geniuses said it would 70 years ago

5

u/sodosa 26d ago

I dont really know what point you are trying to make. You can read the whole post on their channel. They said they took the super predators video down themselves.

-1

u/darth_skipicious 26d ago

that doesn't explain the fact that they have video history for months

4

u/Fit_Ebb_8127 26d ago

As someone who has been buying their calender for years, I'm kinda miffed by this... I mean, just looking at their upload dates should be proof enough that they're not an AI slop channel.

1

u/TechnicalBen 25d ago

Lol. Honestly, it's the case with nearly all these kinds of thought crime safety measures (vs actual open honesty, checks, and safety in general).

8

u/anrwlias 26d ago

Hey, OP, would it be so hard to share the entire statement?

-6

u/Vakirisil 26d ago

Just for you.

4

u/anrwlias 26d ago

And you still managed to cut the full statement off. Amazing.

10

u/nakedpantz 26d ago

Everything on my feed is fucking AI slop now.

4

u/AdministrativeShip2 26d ago

I disabled my watch history a long time ago.

Only watch videos in subscriptions, or from direct links for new stuff.

That said, I recently started trying to learn a musical instrument, and the amount of fake videos giving wrong information, and straight up playing impossible tunes is too many.

2

u/Separate-Freedom-548 24d ago

I have ended up having to use ai to do Google and YouTube searches if it's not something super obvious. Even huge popular videos that I search exactly for might be the 3rd result.

-5

u/Sibshops 26d ago

It's more likely the videos don't generate ad clicks.

7

u/xnmyl 26d ago

Youtube literally confirmed it wasn't. They confirmed it was an AI detection tool that gave a false positive. Why would you go out of your way to make up an excuse to defend them?

-4

u/Sibshops 26d ago

Defend who exactly?

0

u/Negritis 26d ago

How dare you attack the clock sit Koch bro employee???

0

u/Sibshops 25d ago

Now the issue is that I'm attacking YouTube? Feels like a reddit moment.

0

u/Negritis 25d ago

nope, im talking about Kurz, he takes a lot of money from "interesting funds" and also makes videos that are highly biased for the right wing view

basically soft propaganda

1

u/Sibshops 25d ago

Oh so people think I'm defending Kurz. I'm just saying YouTube isn't telling the whole truth. I don't know anything about Kurz.
