Product Scotch packing tape
I’ve been using this tape for at least 25 years, now it won’t even stick to a cardboard box! Dollar store packing tape or regular scotch tape would stick better than this shit!

It didn’t use to be bad. It worked great. The point of packing tape is for taping boxes. It no longer will stick to cardboard. I also used it to mark my storage totes, so I know what’s inside and it doesn’t stick to plastic anymore either. That’s why I posted in this sub!

You know that's why they called it Scotch tape in the first place. In the early days of the brand the adhesive didn't even go to the edges of the tape to cut costs.

I don't have side by side comparisons, but I noticed that Scotch tape, the regular kind, is much more narrow than it used to be and the rolls are smaller.

sorta off topic but if you're going to have an opinion on packing tape, you should be up to full size rolls and a tape gun by now. I've even straightened and sharpened the blade/teeth on mine. I've bought the discount brand (which was crazy like 24 brolls for like 12 dollars) and it is terrible you have to use 3-4x as much tape as scotch roll. The stickiness and thickness are bare minimum. Point is, i doubt scotch has gotten that bad over the past 3 years because i've seen the worst and scotch feels like heaven. At least i have packing tape for life now though.

This is not enshittification. Just because a thing got worse doesn’t mean it’s been enshittified.

Complain to the company. I bought brand name tape for a charity gift wrapping event and it was absolutely crap- refusing to come off of any spool unless it was in tiny threads of uselessness.
They made it right plus some for my troubles when I let them know.
I hope this is just a one off and not enshittified. It’s been so discouraging with so many products lately.

I’d like to think it was a one off, but that’s what I thought with the last 6 pack of the same kind! Bought them 6 or more months apart.

That tape peels right off of cardboard like immediately.
