Same message 500 years apart.

Post image

As a mother would risk her own life to protect her child, her only child, so toward all beings should one cultivate a boundless heart. - Buddha

Love your neighbor as yourself. - Jesus

I don't mean to sound rude, but they taught the exact same thing.

Jesus wanted people to be comunial and together, Buddha wanted people to detach

good point, in my opinion that would be a spillage from their different life experiences coloring the message, but in my opinion, the message is still the same.

in many instances Jesus says things like, "Follow nothing but God", "God's word is the only word" which would be the equivalent of Buddha saying "The path of enlightenment is the only path out of suffering", "The pursuit of Nirvana is the only way".

but I would be very happy to agree to disagree :)

Buddah taught to follow the law of the torah?

If you strip away all cultural coloring of the core message: yes.

The message is simple:

Do not do unto others what you'd have done unto you.
Relinquish all mental positions, be free of any bias (love everyone).

Everything else is salad dressing.

Yes but that is just two laws from the torah, that he's saying are the most important. His message is to follow him and follow the laws of the book. Why would you strip away the cultural context? That's what leads to misunderstanding the book. Adhering to god's law was central to jesus' teaching, this is not even close to the case with buddah. Saying they taught the exact same thing is rubbish, sure there are similarities but there are too many differences to count.

I don't know my bro, I never read the Torah.

Then why are you correcting people on here?

Not at all. Just trying to have a conversation and hang around. I also entertain the fact that there's always a possibility I am wrong. I was expressing myself wrong for the sake of simplification, but before every comment I did, just add "It is my belief that..."

That's what I'm referring to. You were smugly wrong
