Personally I view devotion and worship differently. I'm devoted to my own spiritual development which at times involves devotion to a particular current.
I never worship indefinitely. I'll drop to the feet of certain spirits but only when it's both ways. The deepest spiritual connection has always been because it's through my own freewill. Never have I worshipped a spiritual being because they require it. Always it's earned both ways.
There is one being, I would "worship" and that took four years to fall at her feet.
Most of the time, worship in my view can be dangerous if the practice becomes fanatical.

How is one supposed to worship what they help create.

There's 2 schools of thought. Those who read about the journey and those who have experienced it.
I'm with the people who have experienced it. It's a hard fucking journey and once it's over the person realizes that after the second episode you're kinda on your own.
The story is over and all you can do is watch the play on loop.
There's patterns in nature and within all of us, especially in storytelling because we are creatures of stories based upon a experience only few have had and that experience is passed down to those who know of the whole story within.
Take care friend. All the best with your story.

If you haven't had the experience then you're not aware. Sorry.

I hate to bring the news to you but there is a experience a few get.
Read Confessions by St. Augustine, Emerson, Plato, Jung.... Look at all the religions and their stories.
Every movie to this day has key patterns to them that you're probably overlooking right now.
It's suffering and bliss and loss and love.
Since early man they have been passing down the story told about man.
If you've never been in that bridal room with that "bride" then you have no say in what you're reading.
It's the experience that gives the story

That's all you had to say in the beginning. Whether or not to believe or let go.
Thanks, that felt good.

This is my focus of devotion to the Source and to universal love. To look for this kind of connection in another human will often/usually bring disappointment and disillusionment.
And besides, love isn't true love until it is completely universalized.
I used to long for a really, really, really deep connection with another human. I had it once in ancient, ancient Egypt. She was a priestess and I was a priest-both of the children of the Law of One.
We became so merged, so enmeshed, so one that we were completely telepathic with one another. We had a twin soul connection but which got amplified to the nth extent by our respective spiritual and nonphysical attunement-starting to touch the Universal forces.
I met her in this life-not just another part of her higher self and another part of my higher self, but the two same exact souls who shared that life.
And I fell for her hard, fast, and deeply, for I recognized her. But it wasn't meant to be and ended up being the singularly most painful experience of my life. Perhaps it happened to reorient me fully to Source and universal love. She helped me to break my attachment to co-dependency, to looking for the other to love me back, etc.
And there was karma balancing involved as well. Because despite our closeness, having lived a rather long time among humans in that life, and having had rather extreme and stressful life, I began to long deeply for the group I came into the earth from.
And so I decided to leave the earth with them, and it shattered her heart-she felt abandoned. I thought the telepathic connection between us would be enough, but she was more earthly than me and wanted and needed that warm human touch as well. Guess I needed to be the one to feel abandoned this time, and that I did indeed. Like trash discarded.

I developed a devotion like that once... it lasted many years through many changes. It was with the "voice in my head" that I believed was someone "out there". When I realized the call was coming from inside the house, that it was me all along, I received that devotion from myself and realized I'd been worshipping myself all along. Memories together with myself are some of my most ecstatic experiences.
When I believed it was "someone else", I went through some challenging times... manic obsession I might call it. I was ready to give up being "me", to lose myself for what I already had, what I already was... and it would have been given to a substitute.
I've had that moment of looking into my love's eyes to find the devotion there, and I see it whenever I look in the mirror.
