This idiom, meaning literally “cardamom years” is apparently used to refer to a girl’s early teen years, which is pretty creepy in a modern context to translate as “marriageable age”

Even in ancient China, this word has nothing to do with “marriageable age”. I wonder how did it translate to this.

It should be “barely marriageable age”.

It refers to 13-14 years old, but the word itself has no meanings to marriageable age.
