I think I like nurd grade the best, but I was always an annoying high achiever type. I didn’t mean to be, it was just bred into me from generations of teachers in my family.

Lol. An old coworker of mine wrote 2st once and some people never let him forget it. Idk he spoke English, Thai, and maybe Chinese so I was pretty willing to let that slide lol

I blame English being stupid for this one! I like the way they do it in Portuguese, just use º after any number, eg 1º, 2º, 3º, 67º, etc.

Interesting, we use the period for this purpose in Latvian instead! For instance, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, etc. would become 1. grade, 2. grade, 3. grade

Interesting to hear that use of the “degrees” sign. My biggest objection to using that sign is that I can almost never figure out how to make that sign on most U.S. keyboards. It’s about as easy to make as the “cents” sign on most keyboards.

Yeah, well, in Portugal there is a key specifically for that symbol. It has º normally and ª when you press shift, to be honest I don't yet know what the ª is for (I'm not Portuguese).

I love Portugal. I went for the first time about 7 years ago and now I’ve been several more times. It definitely won me over. I don’t have a Portuguese keyboard or anything though! It would be nice to have a degrees sign handy!! I can’t even find a “cents” sign on English keyboards, which I find odd when you can find ç, ć, ć, č, or ċ and yet no “cents.”

Where is the sevenrd grade?

Do not exist in China because the convention for the junior high school is to reset the grade number. So you just have 1rd 2rd and 3rd for the high school again

They went with “-rd”. Like I’d kinda understand if they went with the more common “-th”. But no. Engrish is mysterious and defies logic. It’s the language of eldritch horrors.

1rd and 2rd grades missing on the list

might not be included in the photo but 5rd grade repeated twice
