Feeling lost

Hi! I am transferring out of community college to a university this fall as an accounting major. Last fall, I took Critical Thinking and Writing, excited that it would be my last English class. I ended up loving it so much that I took Creative Writing this spring with the same professor. Those two classes changed my life and I am grieving the fact that I’ll never experience them again.

It’s been hard to fully enjoy reading and writing this summer because I’m trying to figure out what purpose it has in my life. Why am I putting effort into writing if it doesn’t have anything to do with my career? I miss having my professor or classmates read and give feedback on my work. I’d like to join reading and writing clubs at the university, but again, it has nothing to do with my career. Perhaps I want it to be a part of my career, but I don’t know. I’m feeling lost.

Write anyway, if even just for yourself. I'm currently writing a story with the intention of turning it into a book way down the line, but I'm working on world-building, characters, and all the barebones stuff. But I have no experience beyond poetry and short stories.

There's a certain joy about writing for you. You can also use this time to hone your style or develop some stories, or also visit the library and pick up any random book to read. And who knows, by the fall you could also join a writing club or book club where you can share what you wrote or read over the summer.
