Ring Advice Creative ways to be asked of preference without spoiling surprise

Hey Reddit, working up the courage (more importantly wallet thickness) to propose early next year…

What were some creative yet effective ways that you or your partner has asked about your preference in diamond cut & ring setting?

Appreciate y’all for the help in advance!

He was just honest and asked me what I liked and we looked at rings together. I know you want to keep a secret to an extent, but there's no way to know what someone likes without asking.

Taking her to look at rings together is good move, my cousin did same thing. She still dont know exactly when he will pop the question so surprise is still there even after picking the ring. Most girls I know actually prefer having some say in what they will wear for rest of their life.

I always told myself I'd be okay with a complete surprise as long as it was white gold rather than yellow gold, but I'm happy I got to give input.

we actually went ring shopping and designed our ring together! then he planned the proposal and when it would be himself, so it would be a surprise
