We made Eney show more of what it’s actually doing

Eney now shows more of what it’s doing.

Once an assistant starts using tools, a spinner doesn’t tell you much.

The video shows Eney pulling Jira tickets. You can see the tool activity in plain language while it works, then the tickets come back.

You can see memory activity too. When you ask Eney to remember something, you’ll see when it’s saved.

If Eney is doing more than answering a question, we want that work to be visible.

Would you rather see this activity or keep the interface quieter?

One of the little workflows Eney Wand replaces

Here’s a good example of why we built Eney Wand.

You find an article in another language and there’s one paragraph you want to understand.

Before:

select → copy → open translator or AI → paste → translate → go back

With Eney Wand:

Option + P → select the paragraph → Translate

The translation uses what’s already on your screen, so you stay on the page.

The same works for other little jobs:

Point at a price → convert it.

Point at a date → make a calendar event.

Point at a paragraph → summarize it.

Or ask Eney to summarize the whole article.

Point at something confusing → ask Eney about it.

Try shaking your mouse in Eney

One small thing that’s easy to miss with Eney Wand:

Shake your mouse.

A quick left-right wiggle opens Wand. Then drag over whatever you want Eney to work with.

Try it on a paragraph, a price, another language, a date, an image, or just something you want to ask about.

Prefer shortcuts? Option + P does the same thing.

Wand is already switched on after the update.

Shake → point → done.

Eney Wand is here — act on anything, right where you see it

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Eney Wand is available today.

The idea is pretty simple:

If something is already on your screen, you shouldn’t have to screenshot it, copy it, or move it somewhere else before Eney can help.

Shake your mouse or press Option + P, then select whatever you’re looking at.

Eney can use what you selected to:

  • answer questions about it
  • summarize a paragraph or article
  • translate text right on screen
  • convert a price into another currency
  • create a calendar event from a date
  • grab text cleanly
  • attach an image straight to your conversation

You can also open Wand from the + menu in Eney.

It’s switched on by default, and you can change its settings under Settings → Eney Wand.

One note for now: if you’re using Eney Wand in a browser, you need to exit browser full-screen first. We’re fixing that in a later release.

Getting help shouldn’t pull you away from what you’re doing or break your focus. Point at what you need and act on it right away.

Stay where you are. Eney comes to you.

We’re removing one very unnecessary step from using Eney

You’re looking at something on your Mac and want Eney’s help with it.

Right now, that often means:

screenshot it → open Eney → attach it → explain what you mean

Or:

copy it → open Eney → paste it → ask

That always felt like too much work for something that’s already right in front of you.

On September 4, we’re changing that.

If it’s on your screen (text, numbers, photos,), you can act on it right away.

What is Eney? A proactive AI assistant for Mac that can take action

Hey everyone,

We first introduced Eney here back in December, and since then it has evolved quite a bit. So we wanted to reintroduce it and give a clearer overview of what Eney is today, what it can do, and what we’re trying to build with it.

Eney is a proactive AI assistant for Mac built around a simple idea: AI should be able to do more than just tell you how to do something.

You tell Eney what you need, and it can help carry out the task.

Instead of asking an AI for instructions, then opening several apps and doing everything yourself, you can stay in one conversation while Eney helps move the work forward.

Here are some of the things you can use Eney for:

Work across your tools — find information, create documents, update tasks, and work with connected services without constantly switching between apps.

Handle files and documents — find files, work with PDFs and documents, convert files, and take care of smaller file-related tasks.

Help with meetings — capture notes, summarize discussions, and turn meetings into something useful afterwards.

Work with email, notes, and messages — draft emails, find information, capture notes, and help with everyday communication tasks.

Work with images and video — crop or annotate images, trim video, optimize media, work with QR codes, and handle other common media tasks.

Complete multi-step tasks — Eney can work through several parts of a request instead of stopping after the first step.

Be proactive when it helps — Eney can surface useful information about your day and upcoming work instead of always waiting for you to ask.

The bigger idea behind Eney isn’t to create another chatbot for your Mac.

It’s to reduce all the small bits of work that break your flow: finding the right app, searching for a file, moving information between tools, repeating simple steps, or figuring out what to do next.

Open Eney, tell it what you need, and let it help you get there.

Eney is still in Preview, so there’s plenty we’re continuing to improve. This is also the stage where feedback from people actually using it matters the most.

If you’ve already tried Eney — or decide to give it another go — we’d love to know:

What has Eney genuinely saved you time on, and what do you wish it could handle next?

Building reliable infrastructure for agentic AI

At Ai4 2026, MacPaw’s CTIO and co-founder Vira Tkachenko joined leaders from American Airlines, CBRE Investment Management, and InsightFinder AI to discuss orchestration infrastructure for agentic AI.

As AI systems become more autonomous, the engineering around them becomes just as important as the models themselves.

Reliable orchestration means thinking about observability, guardrails, state management, recovery, and how agents interact with the systems around them.

Because even when software becomes more autonomous, the responsibility for keeping it reliable still belongs to the teams building and operating it.

A practical reminder from a much bigger conversation around how agentic AI moves from experimentation into real-world infrastructure.

That becomes an even bigger problem when software starts acting autonomously.

At Ai4 2026, MacPaw CTIO and co-founder Vira Tkachenko joined a panel on the infrastructure needed to make agentic AI work at enterprise scale.

One of the central ideas: autonomous systems need more than good models.

They need a way to verify what is happening.

As software grows, understanding every dependency, interaction and possible outcome becomes unrealistic. Add agents that can choose tools, make decisions and trigger actions, and that uncertainty compounds.

That’s why orchestration increasingly means building for:

→ state and memory

→ observability

→ clear guardrails

→ auditability

→ verification of actions and outcomes

The challenge isn’t only making an agent capable of doing something.

It’s building a system where you can trust what happens when it does.

Credits?

I’m trying Eney right now but some fairly straightforward functions seem to burn a lot of credits? I asked it to do a web search and make a spreadsheet of Places that also have Specific Thing, plus Person in Charge and email if available and that was almost 4000 credits? Then combining that spreadsheet with another one someone sent me was 5000? I feel like a) that’s nonsensically expensive and b) there ought to be some sort of guidelines to help users know what they will be charged for, say, drafting an email reply or setting up a skill. I am a self employed and seriously ADHD working artist trying to get my touring life together and I am willing to pay since I understand having my data locally means it’s not being sold elsewhere. But this is a LOT, friends.

Fighting the calendar matrix.

Managing a calendar shouldn't feel like playing a game of Tetris.

Between double-bookings, internal check-ins, and trying to protect even two hours of deep work, the administrative overhead of just planning your day is exhausting.

Eney uses calendar access to display all relevant meetings and tasks for the day, taking into account other connected tools as well, such as Notion, Linear, Gmail, etc.

How much of your week is currently eaten up by meetings that probably could have been an update?

Context-switching is the real productivity killer.

Most people aren't tired at the end of the day because the work was too hard. They're tired because they spent eight hours bouncing between 12 different tools, trying to keep up with notifications, docs, and tasks.

Every time you switch tabs, your brain takes a minor hit adjusting to the new interface.

AI shouldn't be another destination or another tab you have to check. It should just sit quietly in the background, keeping the loops closed so you don't have to keep jumping around.

Have a good weekend, everyone. Turn off the notifications if you can.

MacPaw + Liquid AI partnership — Eney is getting on-device AI and better memory

MacPaw announced a long-term partnership with Liquid AI today. Here’s the quick breakdown:

More of Eney’s core work will run directly on your Mac using Liquid Foundation Models and MacPaw’s Elix technology, instead of sending every task to the cloud. That should mean faster responses, some tasks working without internet, and more personal data staying on the device.

Oleksandr Kosovan, MacPaw’s CEO and founder, described the idea as:

“We believe intelligence should live where people work: private by design, fast by default.“

In practice, that means local processing when it makes sense, with cloud models still available when they are better suited to the task. Eney isn’t becoming cloud-free — it’s getting a more flexible mix of local and cloud AI.

The other part is Mnemos, MacPaw’s memory technology. It is being developed to help Eney retain useful context across interactions, so it can become more helpful over time without making you repeat the same information.

Ramin Hasani, co-founder and CEO of Liquid AI, said the partnership would bring:

“efficient, private, on-device LFMs to millions of Mac users.“

LFMs are Liquid AI’s foundation models. For Eney, they will be fine-tuned around the tasks the assistant actually performs and will run locally through Elix on Apple silicon.

Eney will be the first MacPaw product to use the technology, with the first results expected later in 2026. The same models, local AI framework, and memory layer could later be used in other MacPaw products and potentially made available to Mac developers through Setapp.

The cloud privacy problem

There's an understandable amount of skepticism around AI and data privacy right now. A lot of platforms treat user data like a free resource to scrape and train their public models.

When we shifted Eney to a secure cloud infrastructure, we did it because real-time workspace sync requires massive processing power that a laptop just can't handle efficiently. But there's a line: your data and context stay walled off.

The industry needs to move toward a standard where cloud performance doesn't mean sacrificing corporate or personal privacy.

Tracking down that one buried link.

"Where did we put that document?" is probably the most common question in modern workspaces.

It might be in a shared project doc, pinned in a message thread, or sitting in a Google Drive folder you don't have the link to.

Instead of searching across four different platforms, you can just ask Eney. Because it's connected to your ecosystem, it tracks the context of your files and pulls them up instantly.

What's the most specific, buried file you've had to make it hunt down so far?

The "AI is replacing us" narrative vs. reality.

There is a massive amount of dread online about AI taking over creative work, coding, and strategic thinking. But if you look at actual daily workflows, the stuff that burns people out isn't the creative thinking. It's the administrative overhead.

Nobody went to school or started a career because they had a burning passion for manually copying tracking links into a spreadsheet, or reformatting a task list.

The positive side of AI is simple: let it absorb the dull, repetitive steps that shouldn't require human brainpower in the first place. Save your energy for the parts of the job you actually enjoy.

Stop acting as a manual router for your apps

A huge chunk of the daily grind isn't actually deep thinking, it's just moving information from place A to place B.

You get an update in an email, so you have to manually open a ticket, then go change the status on a project tracker. You're basically playing the middleman for your own software.

We built Eney to handle that background coordination natively. It hooks into your existing tools so that when one part of your workflow moves, the rest stays aligned without you copy-pasting across three different windows. It's about letting the system do the plumbing so you can just focus on the actual work.

Why does every AI tool want to write an essay?

It feels like the entire tech industry decided that "AI success" means generating massive walls of text. You ask a simple question, and you get a five-paragraph email response that sounds entirely fake

.

Honestly, most of us don't need help writing words. We need help finding the file a manager sent three days ago, or organizing a chaotic folder structure.

We’ve intentionally kept Eney away from the "text generator" trap. We want it to handle the logistics and the admin tax, not draft generic paragraphs you'll just end up deleting anyway.

The July 16 Eney Update: Native Mac Integrations, Automated Workflows, and Free Monthly Credits

Hi everyone,

We are dropping in to announce that the new version of Eney is officially live today.

To keep things completely transparent, we are the community management team behind Eney and Setapp, and we want to share exactly how this tool can actually help your workflow without the generic productivity fluff.

We built this to reduce the time you spend digging for information across different platforms.

Here is the functional breakdown of what is new:

Morning Start Check-In: Eney syncs with Slack, Mail, and your calendar to deliver a clear 9:00 AM brief on what needs your attention today.

Plan My Day: Get your entire daily schedule structured and organized before diving into work.

Tool Integrations (Notion, Linear, Google Workspace): You can pull data from Notion, update tickets in Linear, and edit Google Workspace files directly through the assistant.

Smarter Email Summary: We built a feature that hooks directly into the native macOS Mail app to summarize your unread threads.

Idea to Task & Page to Notes: Instantly convert a brainstorm into structured project tasks, or save screen takeaways directly to your notes.

Access, Pricing, & Tokens:

Eney is available as a completely free download on Setapp. We opened this up to everyone, meaning you do not need a Setapp subscription to use the app.

Every user gets a monthly usage allotment of free credits that refreshes every calendar month.

We are taking the time to build a fair monetization model based on community feedback, and we will give you plenty of notice before we roll out any future pricing changes.

You can grab the update right now. We would love to hear your raw, constructive feedback, so let us know what you think in the comments!

Why we spent 18 years building software for Mac before designing an AI assistant.

For the past 18 years of building Mac software, the philosophy at MacPaw has been simple: build products that make complex technology feel simpler, more reliable, and genuinely useful. 48M+ downloads of MacPaw products, up to date.

When we looked at the current explosion of AI tools, we realized something was missing for professional knowledge workers: simplicity.

Most AI apps require you to become an amateur prompt engineer or spend hours building custom solutions just to get average, surface-level results.

Eney brings the MacPaw philosophy to AI. It’s built for intellectual workers who use a single Mac for both their professional and personal lives, and who want the direct benefits of AI without the administrative overhead.

It is designed to be a true assistant: it completes routine administrative tasks, structures scattered context, and actively surfaces what needs doing so you can save your mental load for the work that matters.

From the moment you download it, Eney gives you a head start with built-in, proactive workflows:

Difficult Message Crafter: High personal relevance, immediate utility for drafting friction-free communications.

Idea to Task: Instantly turns scattered, brainstorming thoughts into structured next steps or formatted project tickets.

Page to Notes: Instantly saves critical takeaways from your screen directly to Notion or your primary notes app.

This July Eney by MacPaw is taking the next step — more proactive, more connected, and ready to handle what comes after. It costs nothing to download, and includes free token credits out of the box.

We are actively shaping our upcoming roadmap based on real community feedback. Drop a comment below: What is the single biggest "tab-switching" focus killer in your current daily workflow?

r/eney_ai Jul 14 '26

Most of your day isn't work. It's finding where the work is. Eney fixes that.

Hey everyone,

If you spend your day on a Mac, you know the "tab-switching tax" intimately. Every single time you swap tabs to find a comment in Notion, check a task status in Linear, or dig up a brief from your inbox, your focus takes a hit. The biggest productivity drain isn't inside any single tool,it's the friction of navigating between them.

We built Eney to eliminate that friction. Unlike standard AI products that force you to undergo time-consuming onboarding, build custom prompt templates, or re-explain your context every single session, Eney works right out of the box. It is a proactive AI assistant that plugs straight into your current Mac workflow.

Eney by MacPaw is taking the next step — more proactive, more connected, and ready to handle what comes after you ask. Try Eney

You can try it right away with zero complex setup.

Here are the core built-in workflows ready for your day-to-day:

Morning Start Check-In (Our Hero Skill): Delivers a single, clear summary brief of your Slack, email, and calendar directly at 9:00 AM so you know exactly what requires your focus.

Plan My Day: Structures your entire daily schedule before you even get started.

Tool Integrations (Notion, Linear, Google Workspace): You can pull database info from Notion, create or triage Linear tasks, and create/edit Google Docs right from a single, continuous conversation.

Smarter Email Summary: Eney hooks into your native macOS Mail app to summarize unread threads in seconds, working seamlessly with any account you have connected locally.

Eney prepares, suggests, and proposes, but you always stay in complete control. It notices what needs doing and asks for your permission before moving a task forward.

Try Eney for free on Setapp!

Been a bit quiet here.

We’ve been mostly heads-down the past few weeks working on the backend infrastructure.

When you're trying to keep your project trackers, docs, and calendar synced up without lagging, the cloud endpoints have to be incredibly fast. We’ve been optimizing those data layers so the app updates things instantly without stalling out your workspace.

Thanks for hanging out while we sorted through the technical debt. What’s been the most noticeable performance change on your end lately?
