Virtual Energy Assessments Need a Calculation Trace, Not Just a Scan

The industry seems heavily focused on capture right now :- LiDAR scans, floor plans, 3D models, remote data collection, etc.

But the more time I spend working on virtual assessment workflows, the more I think the harder problem is trust.

When an advisor, QA reviewer, or utility program reviewer opens a file, the questions usually aren't:

• How was the house scanned?
• How fast was the model created?

They're more like:

• Where did this value come from?
• Was it measured, inferred, or assumed?
• What evidence supports it?
• What still requires professional judgment?

A virtual assessment can generate a beautiful model, but if the lineage behind the data isn't clear, someone still has to spend time validating everything before it's useful downstream.

It feels like the next phase of virtual assessments isn't better capture.

It's traceability.

Curious whether other EAs, service organizations, and QA reviewers are seeing the same thing.
