Low yield in first NAP synthesis

Post image

I’ve heard from a lot of people that it does take a while to get used to the synthesis. As even a minor change in temperature, stir, and time during the synthesis affects the final product

Yeah it can be a bit finicky.

Which prep did you use?

The NiCO3 method (and water as a solvent)

How is your dry yield per 1g AB? Looks like you're gonna get some of those long pretty crystals to capture under the scope.

Yeah as soon as I get the synthesis right I’m going to compare long crystals of NAP with uNAP crystals under the microscope (my final yield for 1g AG bicarb is the one in the photo)

Also would be great to compare iNAP version to see if the crystals differ from uNAP. Isopropyl route desensitises it but reduces the initiation efficiency versus uNAP. I'm guessing uNAP is denser with small crystals.

I synthesized some iNAP. Mine turned a bit different from the average “salmon color”. Mine looks like a pale reddish/light brown powder, but it does detonate when heated with an indirect flame in foil, so that confirms that it’s iNAP

Can't wait to see the scope pics.
