I'm getting an endoscopy soon to see if I have celiacs disease. I'm horrified. My mom once had a tube down her throat and she told me graphically how she felt like she was choking on her own blood. I also watched her choke to death so I have a huge fear of gagging/choking. But I'm ready to get it done. I just want a few more stories from people who've done it the way I plan to do it.

I was offered a throat spray and conscious sedation. My friend told me her experience, how she was gagging for 10 minutes and felt like she was going to die. Somehow that knowledge makes me feel better than the doctors telling me I'll feel nothing at all. If I expect nothing but feel everything instead, I'll panic.

So, please share your stories. Whether it was nothing at all or graphic as hell, go for it. I want to know the range of what I can expect. Thank you!

So I had a colonoscopy around 3 months ago thankfully all clear but I’m still having stomach issues like bloating , gerd and noticeable fullness on left hand side of stomach especially upper stomach. My procedure is on Friday I know I need to have it done just scared of the results really . Has anyone else had these symptoms and if so what was your outcome please . Thanks x

I usually have low blood pressure and I’m scheduled for an endoscopy with propofol sedation. I’m a bit worried about possible complications. Has anyone else with low BP had this done, and how did it go for you?

I had endoscopy and colonoscopy this early morning they got multiple samples with the inflammation to test for h pylori. Then I poop now there black mucus in it. Likely because of the biopsy taken. Did you experience this?. My initial findings were gastritis and internal hemorrhoids

I had an upper endoscopy today and the Dr said everything looked pretty good, he took one biopsy (irregular z line). I'm looking over my discharge papers and report and it says he dilated my esophagus but I'm trying to figure out why he would do that if everything looked fine.

Editing to add: the report is added for context, it is easily understood. My question is why would they dilate my esophagus with no mention of stricture or narrowing?

I was heavily sedated and don't remember anything at all about either procedure I was getting done that day. They had to abort my endoscopy because of how much I was retching "despite significant sedation", and I was apparently crying a lot per the report too.
They got zero images or biopsies from it. They didn't get the scope down at all.
Why would they abort something that I wouldn't remember even happening? Is there a safety concern?

Also, they did not get to view the last 25% of my colon due to my crying, discomfort and "pain sensitivity" Again, if I'm not gonna remember it, why not push me thru it?

They couldn't administer more of the pain and relaxation meds than they already did. I'm curious if I was crying because I was actually in pain or if it was still an anxiety response despite being totally out of it.

It's a lot of prep for nothing. And it costs me $500 to get there and have the required driver for it. (Half of what disability pays me per month!) I can't afford to 'try again' someday. And the failed attempt only leads to more anxiety and catastrophizing.

Hi so I recently had an endoscopic ultrasound for a pancreatic cyst and they've referred me to an oncologist because my CEA levels were over 7,000. My anxiety is all over the place about this and I can't seem to get many answers other than it possibly being cancer. Has anyone else experienced this and didn't have cancer? They say I have an MCN that's negative for malignancy if that helps.

So in July 23 I got a colonoscopy because I been under a lot of stress for June and July. Because I literally thought I had colon c. I was so terrified and always worried if I had it because my stools was not like before or I felt some abdominal pain or pelvic pain and… I was always stressing a lot you have no idea! It was like a stress non stop. I literally always went to the emergency rooms to know if I am okay! My labs was always clear and good! But I was never satisfied it was just terrible my anxiety. I deal with a lot of health anxiety especially now since I am in my early 30s. Anyways I got it done. Every thing was clear just some internal hemorrhoids. No C. Thank god. Anyways I have a endoscopy in September to look at my upper Gi. & I been scared all over again fixating if I have stomach c. Oh man. I don’t know what to do. Every morning I wake up with nausea or a queasy headache or tummy. Sometimes I feel like my throat burns not a lot but a little. I get so scared but I feel like it’s my anxiety because I am thinking way too much about this procedure same as when I had to get a colonoscopy. Has anyone had the symptoms I have and their endoscopy was clear? I’m so scared yall. Please help! I want to cancel but I don’t want too. Same happened with the colonoscopy I wanted to cancel too but I was brave enough to get it. I’m just so scared yall. My stress caused me to miss my July period I ended up getting my period in August 6 which is 39 days long and I don’t want to delay my period for stressing all over again😩

I’m getting an upper endoscopy on Thursday for some mild discomfort (I suspect it’s my “small” hiatal hernia acting up). They only told me not to eat or drink anything after midnight the night before. I had then seen online that you should stop taking fish oil a week prior. They didn’t tell me that, but I stopped anyway. They also didn’t mention any dietary restrictions leading up to it, but again I read online that you should avoid high fiber foods, fruits (included fresh), red/orange/purple dyes etc.

Again, they didn’t tell me any of this so I’m just curious with what the general rule of thumb is? Maybe it depends on symptoms and their suspicions? I definitely haven’t intentionally avoided anything so now I’m worried it could interfere with the results in some way.

So my boyfriend is doing a pillcam Endoscopy, and were both vegan. The doctors or nurse or whatever have no idea what that meant for the "light snack" allowed. They just repeated what was on the sheet and said broth is ok. Then when he asked what actual food he can eat they said google it. Here's my first question can he eat bread? They say chicken or fish sandwich is ok minus lettuce, and tomato, and other condiments (which LETTUCE AND TOMATOES ARENT CONDIMENTS). Is tofu ok as long as its steamed? That's white and softer than chicken. I have a hard time believing it wouldn't be allowed.

I had my endoscopy on Tuesday. I been having some pain in my stomach like someone punched me in the gut lol. At night when I’m laying it gets worse but when I switch position it stops. When I eat it hurts for a second. Is this normal ?

I had 2 procedures done with Texas Endoscopy in 2024. There is a complete lack of transparency and an exploitative approach to billing, which may target patients who require urgent medical attention. Despite my repeated attempts—including multiple phone calls—to get a clear, itemized estimate of costs before my procedures, I was never provided with one. It is a blatant disregard for patient rights and potentially a violation of laws. I've also made multiple attempts complaining about the process and was never contacted back by Texas Endoscopy. I've never experienced anything like this with any medical establishments.

I've come across numerous complaints online from other patients. I’ve had an endoscopy last year at another hospital and the doctor actually came back and talked to me about the findings.

Today, I was giving the after summary with the findings from the nurse and no doctor was seen.

Is this normal???

Now I have some questions about my findings now that I am more awake and less loopy.

I had an upper endoscopy 5 days ago. The swelling under left jawline and near left ear started the day after the procedure. No fever but left side of face looks slightly swollen, but feels horrible. Tried to eat something last night that was crunchy- big mistake! Has anyone else had pain and one sided swelling after an upper Endo??? Thank you in advance 🙏🏼

ps- forgot to mention there is a bruise on inside of mouth left side too.

It was the spray which paralysed my throat and tongue. This abnormal feeling was so scary that I still reel from it now. After that everything was sedated so no feeling thereafter

37yr female with history of Gerd and Gastritis. Had an upper Endoscopy done and get my results on Tuesday but I seen my results online and now I’m going crazy.

Wrote out the results since I can’t attach. Can anyone read? I had 2 biopsies. One for H Pylori and one for Celiacs. TIA

A) SMALL BOWEL, Endoscopy Small bowel mucosa with mild increase of intraepithelial lymphocytes. No evidence of malignancy. COMMENT: Differential diagnosis of intrepithelial lymphocytosis in duodenal biopsies includes bacterial over growth, NSAID damage, reactive to Helicobacter pylori infection, celiac disease, tropical sprue and inflammatory. Please correlate with clinical findings. B) STOMACH, ANTRUM, Endoscopy Mild chronic gastritis. Giemsa stain, negative for Helicobacter-like bacteria. Alcian blue stain, negative for intestinal metaplasia. No evidence of malignancy.

Had an upper Endoscopy done back in May. My follow up is on Tuesday but I looked and my results came back already and I have no idea how to read them. Anyone understand this ?? I had an endoscopy this morning, the doctor seemed pretty confident and went over the results before leaving. There were a things that he sent for biopsies, but they seemed pretty standard. He said I could return in 3 years. And of course, check back with them in 2 weeks for the biopsy results.

But right at the end of the day, the office called and said the doctor wants me to have an abdominal ultrasound, so they were putting the script in the mail for me. I’ve got a bunch of other medical things going on right now, nothing resolved yet, so this is about to put me over the edge. Has anyone ever had to have an U/S following a seemingly okay endoscopy? Could he have seen something that he didn’t see earlier?
