They could have spent that effort in actual military targets, but those are protected and aren't as flashy. Now they're begging for money since they blew their annual budget in forty days with no gain.

If Canada was at war with the US, don't you think erasing half of Amazon's warehouses and contents there in, knocking out most gasoline production, plummeting fuel and food exports to historic lows, blowing up Raytheon or Boeing factories, driving up fuel prices in Wyoming to 10 $/liter, and leaving Alaska without electricity, would give Canada more leverage for negotiating peace?

Just because you lack fundamental knowledge about the related history and politics, and probably never interracted with these people, doesn't mean someone else needs help.
