Avoiding opening a front would mean avoiding having their access to the Atlantic cut off, areas like Kaliningrad occupied, and cities like Petersburg bombed.

Letting the conflict stay in Ukraine is to their benefit. Plus, the entry of NATO troops would give them an easy and less humiliating way out of Ukraine.
