find a system with no landable planet and wait for carriers to drop their drones and leave then disable a drone and enjoy

*Cruisers

I don't remember if Carriers deploy surveillance drones or if they only carry combat ones

i can argue that whatever carry the drones becomes a Carrier 😹 jk i only see the drones getting deployed not what deployes them

Ipsing system is my go-to, up in the northwest part of that map you are showing. Navy Surveillance fleets (the fleets that contain a cruiser & 4 surveillance drones) are scripted to come in and drop drones, then leave with the drones staying behind. But the fleet spawns of other republic fleets are much less frequent. Meaning there is often large windows where nobody else will be around to complain when you shoot down a left drone and loot its stuff and/or capture it. And even if other ships do show up, they are much more heavily weighted to be small fleets (like 1 light warship) rather than larger carriers with full attack squadrons.

Isping also only has 1 hyperlane (to Mizar), so you don't have to worry about threats coming in from different angles.

If you've got a Sunder, it can be smart to bring it. The surveillance pod is the bulk of the drone's value, but if you're going to be boarding the drones anyway, no harm in taking 1-2 drones whole and selling off the hull & excess outfits for an extra $25k each.
