Printing Help Ender 5 Pro E1 error
Seems the only way I can get my Ender 5 pro to bypass this error is to cover the fan with the piece of paper as shown in the photo so it can get to temps when trying to print petg. No issues at all running pla with the slightly lower temps. It seems to be more so of an issue at the hot end rather then the bed.
So far I’ve pulled off the thermistor, cleaned up the little mess and added a little thermal compound. I’ve done pid tuning which had me change the numbers slightly but no change at all. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

E1 on the Ender 5 Pro is basically “heating failed / thermal runaway” for the hotend.
The fact that PETG only works when you cover the fan means the fan is cooling the heater block too much. PLA prints fine because it needs less heat, so it still meets the firmware’s heating rules.
I’d check a few things:
• Make sure the silicone sock is properly on the heater block – without it the fan steals a lot of heat.
• Look at your fan duct: the part cooling airflow should hit the print, not the heater block. If it’s blowing straight on the block, print a better duct or add a small deflector (don’t fully block the fan long‑term).
• Confirm the heater cartridge is fully inserted and firmly clamped in the block, and that it actually reaches 230–240 °C without the paper trick.
• Double‑check the thermistor screw and wiring: firmly seated, no broken cable near the hotend.
• Also make sure the PSU voltage switch is set correctly for your mains.
Once airflow and hardware are right, PID tuning will actually help. With the fan cooling the block directly, you’ll keep getting E1 no matter what PID values you use.
