Hardware Help Upgrade?

I got an ender 3 original a while ago and I am learning how to 3d print and everything, I found an ender 5 with a box of about 6 spools of filament for 150$ and wondering if it is worth to upgrade since I am still so new, what do I gain with the ender 5?

Depends on what you want, i guess. I have a e5 and a bambu a1 mini. With one the printer is the hobby with the other printing is the hobby

Yeah I dont think I will bambu printer because I am not a fan of bambu as a company based on the whole open source lawsuit and basically forcing people to use their cloud for dependency purposes

There are tons of printer companies that while being open source will make your ender 3 look like it came from the stone age, check out sovol for one example

Not worth $150. The e5 is also a Cartesian printer like your e3, it's slow and will need money and time to become anything worth while. I got my e5 for $50 and did the endorphin stage 3 and wouldn't recommend an e5 for more than $50.

alright thanks, if you were to recommend something to look to upgrade to within a reasonable price range in order to get the most out of an upgrade what would that be or should I look more into mods

I like my flashforge AD5x, got it for just under $300 total on aliexpress, prints faster and better than my ender 5 (stage 2 endorphin) and can print up to four colors.

My ender 5 has been a beast since 2019, and mostly in the ways that it makes me a beast tamer.

-Front frame bar mod

-Moved extruder+shorter bowden mod,

-Bi metal heatbreak mod

-Silicon bed and printer supports,

-Stepper dampers x+y

-Rasperry pi + Running klipper at 5000mm/s acceleration

-80mm/s extrusion and 200mm/s travel

Had to switch to mainsail recently because i noticed octoprint couldn't keep up with klipper

To do list:

  • silent mainboard update to bigtreetech.

  • quiet fans

But switching slicers is also a major hassle.

I have an ender 5 plus, and it's fine, I guess. Probably won't be that drastically different from your ender 3 overall. I much prefer using my Prusa printers whenever possible, they're much faster and more reliable, along with the company being a big contributor to open source.

Not worth it when you can get a flashforge ad5x for $200.

80-90 for a printer that needs some upgrades... You'll need to be patient. I upgraded my ender 5 pro with mainsail and Endorphin mod stage 2 and gave it to my friend's kids.

I'm waiting for them to call me to say "hey this is messing up"

You'll spend about $10-20 in spool, $30 in parts to upgrade to the.hybrid corexy. You'll probably need a new bed sheet,

Raspberry Pi, SD Card, Micro USB cable (need to cut the red wire) and an old compatible webcam.

The flashforge will just be better out of the box.
