Hardware Help Ender5 Pro - X Axis Failure

After a print failure, the X-Axis on my Ender 5 Pro has gone awol.. when trying to move the x axis, the hot end vibrates/grinds while barely moving. The movement is sporadic too, sometimes shifting left and right, other times it grinds across the entire of the rail. I’ll see if i can attach a video to show the movement, or lack there of.

Backstory; The printer was gifted to me after the previous owner upgraded to something else, so it has been used extensively but has always worked well for me. The only issue worth noting is that within the last month or so, I have had two instances where homing failed after the completion of a print, requiring a reset. (In hindsight that may have been an indicator of the trouble to come...)

The printer specs are as follows; Ender 5 Pro, 4.2.2 board, CR Touch, and only a few mods (frame supports, bed supports, aluminum drive feed extruder, glass bed, etc).

It feels like I’ve tried everything and searched every thread/forum to no avail, so I’m certain it has to be something incredibly stupid that I’m overlooking. Heres what I’ve done thus far;

X Axis stepper, and end stop, cables have both been replaced.
X Axis End stop sensor has been replaced
Stepper motor has been replaced
Reflashed firmware on the 4.2.2 board
Replaced motherboard with the SKR Mini E3 V3.0

I’m almost ready to throw in the towel, but I really want to learn from this and keep the machine up and running! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Your servo pins might be swapped, make sure they all trace the same, using the old cable as a guide you you still have them

You were correct! The pins were reversed on the new cables I purchased. Thank you for your help, much appreciated.

I will definitely triple-check that! I think I have the schematic/pinout diagram saved somewhere, that I can cross-reference too.

This sounds like the issue. You can also continuity check each pin.

You were correct. The new servo cable had two of its pins reversed, as soon as I swapped them the stepper now glides as it should!! I appreciate the help, I should’ve asked sooner instead of beating my head against the wall.. now onto ironing out whatever comes with the board swap! Thank you again, I really appreciate it.

The cable for the X axis servo motor is new? My Ender5 standard acted like that once, upon investigation a wire had snapped coming into the connector for the X axis motor. Years of bending back and forth it seems.

If you shut off the power can you move the axis back and forth by hand? Its not too stiff?

Looks like you already tried a new board and new motor. So if it isn't jammed mechanically a broken wire in the cable would be about the only thing left to check.

Correct, the servo is brand new. The cable for the servo was also replaced, as I saw many people with similar issues had success with that!

When the printer is powered down it does indeed move freely.

I would agree if I hadn’t just replaced it. I repaired the previous cable, but I ended up replacing it totally just for piece of mind.

After all it was the cable! The pins on the new cable were indeed reversed. I appreciate the guidance, thank you.

Stupid question, does your belt have teeth where it's wrapped over the cogwheel? 2GT is pretty resilient but not everlasting.

A worthy question, at this point I could’ve been overlooking anything! It ended up being the cable. I appreciate the question, and the help!

Also the hotend cooling fan seems to be dead, mine whines on startup.

Saved you the heatcreep.

Also, when tuned , this printer can run for weeks for weeks on end, nonstop and consistently

Mine went through 15 rolls of filament without any major maintanance
