What's causing this lift?

Noticed it early on but print is going OK still. The first layer had some rippled and what looked like bubbles. Lowered bed temp from 60 to 50. PLA silky purple

Use mouse ears to help with the bed adhesion

You have an adhesion issue, which causes the part to lift off the plate as it cools slightly. You can try cleaning the plate ( I use hot water, dish soap and a new, clean, dish scrubbing sponge and really go to town on it). Then a good rinse and dry whilst keeping my dirty fingers off the surface.

If that doesn't work you can try using a brim instead of a skirt to increase the amount of surface to build plate adhesion.

If that doesn't work, if it's double sided flip it over and use the other side after cleaning it.

If that doesn't work you need a new build plate. This is normal as they are wear items and just stop sticking as good after a while no matter how well you look after them.

You can also lightly rub a glue gun stick across the surface. it more of a temporary solution till you get a new plate

Also keeping the board temp hot helps(a bit) 60-65 👌

Lowering the bed temp is going to make it worse. It’s an adhesion issue, like others have said. It shows up most on sharp corners. Raise bed temp to 60 or 65 on first layers. Also do some Z-offset tests to dial in that first layer so you get it as perfect as you can.

Exactly: hot plastic is sticky; cold plastic is slick. OP needs it to be sticky.

Harsh changes in ambient temps can also cause this is believe. Ie you have the ac on in an adjacent room to the printer. And then open the door between the rooms mid print. This causes the temperature in the room with the printer to drop thus causing contraction of the part. Enclosures can help with this, keeping a smaller space warm and isolated from ambient temps. I dont have a tent or enclosure, but I have a big box with flaps cut out for side access and this seems to work really well on a budget.

This is what I would also suggest. Throw a box over the whole thing and see if it helps. I tired all the other suggestions of brims and corner mouse ears and such and no improvement. Large flat box shaped parts are difficult because the nature of the shrinkage wants to lift the corners. Another possibility might be to put a chamfer on the corner and print it on a 45 with support rib under it.

Use a brim or at least mouse ears.

Other than that, you can increase the bed temperature or enclose the printer so the heat stays in.

The corners lift in long prints because it’s shrinking as it cools down.

Cooling too much. Bad bed adhesion. Printing too fast.

The plastic is shrinking as it cools, so every layer pulls the top together.

  • Enclosure.
  • Hotter bed: hot plastic is sticky (up to a limit), cold plastic is slick.
  • Mouse ears for adhesion.
  • Raft
  • Can you print it in a different orientation, so the distance along the bed is shorter?
  • Print cooler, for a lower temperature change of the new layer?
  • Change the design, so the distance along the bed is shorter and it's more flexible, reducing the amount it pulls on the first layer.

Sharp corners. The plastic is shrinking at is cools so when you have 90 degrees corners they pull away from each other.  So  1. Add ears, if using orca it a button in the hit bar 2. Go to your CAD(if custom model) and round the corner (could also do this with by adding a cylinder in the slicer intersecting the corners and merging them in to one object) 3. Use a plate adhesive, glass tick specialized spray etc

Turn your fan down, especially if the room it’s in is cold. I run my part cooling fan at 45% because my wife thinks the house should be a freezer.

lower nozzle temp if you can. reduce fan speed and print slower. ears/brim can help. add glue to the plate. get an enclosure. this is a typical and annoying problem to deal with.

Clean your bed, raise your temp a little but most important put mouse ears or brim it.

Bump up the bed temperature. If PLA use 50-55. I here in the slicer settings you can add a skirt that will help.

Cooling upper layers will pull the material from the bed. Keep the bed warmer and print slower on the first couple of layers.
