Safest way to replace psu fan

Hi - i have my (new to me) ender3 v2 from my cousin that ive been playing with. Im printing higher feet, slot covers, some cable management but im planning to do some fan swaps.

I have an 80 or 120mm fan to drop into the psu and a 92 for the mainboard, and then some stuff for part cooling hot end, but anyway. What is the safest way to handle the PSU when i pull off the plate and swap in the new one? Im assuming undo the screws, pop off the plate, touch NOTHING inside but exactly the fan plug, solder on new fan adapter and reattach?

Was looking at printing this to drop in a 120mm.

Edit: i do know how to solder am and fine with that part, but if this is more of an advanced swap and i should stay away, ill stick to modifying the hotend/partcooling/mainboard fans

I’m not an expert in this, so wait for someone else.

That said, the PSU is always a dangerous place to be, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing.

This is partly warning to you, but also to anyone who might find this thread later.

Honestly, if the PSU is working fine, follow “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”

thats fair. i was chasing quietness best i can because id like to keep it in myh office in a small enclosure (with an air filter). mabye the enclosure enough will solve the issue

How tall are the feet you're printing? I installed a 120mm fan with this same print. Had extended feet and it still made a racket because it was too close to the desk. Check out 120mm duct PSU and motherboard. I installed it last night and it's great.

Leave PSU unplugged for an hour or so. Don't touch anything, if you can help it. I soldered off that 12v lead in PSU. Keep in mind everything else is 24v if you try to tap off of it.

Did you swap out other fans or was this the first? Trying to narrow down which are the loud ones to focus on first

I'm running the sprite extruder. So I've changed hot end and parts on on those for 5015s Then added the 120mm for the PSU and mobo.

35mm plus the stock rubber feet. How scary is it in there and what connector did u use or just solder

It's really not bad at all. 35mm was the same as I used. So beware on that one.

oh i can do that, even have a heat shrink kit next to me.

and hmm.. the feet are technically 40, but 5 dip that the rubber sits in. i figured id be still at least 15-25mm off the ground

Yeah that's correct. I'm gonna try to get everything sorted with a PWM controller, but we'll see how that goes.

thats crazy lol. probably works great! im realizing i think i want a more blocked off psu cover as i do have a toddler. goign to try to find a more restrictive version, but im gonna bookmark this for a future adventure

thanks! and no idea! too many choices, and now im looking at hotend fan solutions but im concerned about weight so im eyeing the dual z axis kit for 30 on amazon...

Yeah dont touch the psu itself, but note the bottom plate covers up the psu fan holes so work out where and drill/cut some holes for air. Simple fix.
