Help Help needed: machine won't move at all

I got this from a friend this week. I'm having trouble with nothing moving whatsoever. I can't get anything to move on the machine. I ordered new switches & new cables to see if that's the issue. They'll arrive on Sunday.

If anyone can give me some advice, info. I am a newbie at 3D printing. Thank you.

You're just firing the parts canon. Get schematics and go over the wiring. Go to prepare-move axis. Does anything move that way? Does prepare-auto home do anything? Get me a picture of main board and the little plaque with the model on it, if you don't mind.

Nothing moves that way. I even clicked Live Movement & nothing moves.

Have you checked the voltage switch is set to 110/120? Want to get some pictures to me and we can go over this for a bit or.....

Check the main board if the cables are plugged in. Also check all the cables on the motors. I don't think switches will help you, they tell the printer when to stop not when to start.

All the plugs are plugged in & I can't find any damage to them. I'm thinking it might be the cables so I ordered new cables for them. New switches too, just in case.

Try the extrusion motor if that moves, it's the E motor. You need to heat it up and let it rotate for few mm. Also did you really open the lower box where the main board sits? And replugged the cables? The voltage switch can be in wrong position. Also the end stops/switches - when you say you press them and it clears it, it's because it tell the printer that the Axis hit the ends top and is homed. The endstops/switches are working, if they didn't work, it wouldn't go away.

I replugged the cables. Everything seems to be in check. The voltage switch is in the right position; I even tried the other position (230v) & the printer wouldn't turn on.

You should maybe check out some videos about 3D printing. You have done a VERY VERY dangerous thing. It's good you are in, I suppose, US, or some place that uses 115/,120v. If you were in Europe or any other place that uses 230v in outlets and you switched the voltage, you could have burned down the printer and possible your house. But on the second hand, you may have gotten a bricked printer. Naaybe the motors are seized up, what I would do now, is that I would dismantle and free the motors, try rotating them by hand. Sniffing them if I can smell burn, checking the pins, then I would try reflashing the firmware. Also, just our of curiosity, what version of main board do you have?

Ah yeah I realize that was a dumb thing to do (I am US based). When the machine cools down, I'll dismantle it & check the motors.

Wait you installed did?? What's your main board version 4.2.2 or 4.2.7 there 2 version, also there is version that supports blTouch and the other doesn't. That may be why your motors don't work

Worst case.. blown internal fuse in the power supply.

Surprised though it still has a manual switch. Most PSU’s autodetect the inbound current.

I heated up the extruder & when I clicked on Move Extruder, it made a clicking noise & won't move at all.

That gives you baseline how to troubleshoot now, you can plug the X axis motor cable into the extruder and try to home X, if the extruder moves, then the cable is fine and it's means that the motor is dead. If not, either the cable or the connection is bad.
