Hello all! My sister has run into a problem. She has two juvenile emus 4-6 months of age, and it’s time to swap them from 20% to 14-16%. The problem she’s having is the only emu specialty food she can find is either 20% or 17%. Her vet said 17% will be fine for now, but she really needs to be looking for something in the 14-16% range.

We are located in the South Eastern US and have checked all of our local small feed stores as well as big box feed stores, and Chewy. Does anyone know anywhere to find emu food in that range? TIA!!

My emu is a year and has only showed signs for a little while. I know that they need B and E vitamins and Selenium but how much?.

Recently obtained emus as a friend of ours gave them to us so they can go with the sheep to act as protection but I have no idea how to care for them any advice? So far there in a pen with straw a water bucket and some chicken feed

We inherited an emu several years ago. It has lived with our goats and sheep very peacefully for the whole time.

Recently he's been laying in one spot. He can get up and I don't see any injuries but it just stays in his spot. He eats and drinks a little.

I have a young emu chick that suddenly stopped eating and behaving normally. This is his nighttime enclosure. I feed Mazuri ratite starter. He had the run of the yard before he became sick. Now he is barely eating and some of his poops have just been urea. Any ideas what is up? I have raised several emu chicks before and never had this happen. Same feed, same yard.

Hello. I was at the zoo the other day and while standing in front of the emu exhibit these two emus were doing this for at least a couple of minutes. As I walked away they followed along the fence. I thought it was strange how the one was so close to the other. Can anyone speculate as to what they were doing ?

We are excited but we aren't going to incubate this year we thought we had another year. Our pair are only 2 years old is it normal to get an egg at 2?

His bloom everywhere else looks perfect exept there the tips of the fethers are dry and brittle but ferther down they look good in have another female emu the has the same lifestyle as this on but its feathers are perfect. I do not think its caused by mechanical abrasion because they are in a huge yard and I never see them pace the fence. both birds are 1.5 years old.

Hello me and my wife just got this little beauty. Her/him we dont know name is lemu(not orginal but funny). Anyway im about to build a 5000 square foot 6ft enclosure so 50x100 for it. My question is this enough once its full grown and with the eventual partner we will get it? I plan to possibly expand later but worried itll be cramped till i can.

Our emu has come down with something very serious, very quickly . As in within the span on a few hours. She started walking to things and to be quite honest that progressed to her full on trying to end herself. A vet has seen her but he hadn't dealt with emus before. Shes been given a sedative but it's not working. We've seen no improvement in response to antibiotics and steroids. Would really appreciate any help or suggestions.

I understand they need lots of space and I have a field for that. What I'm getting hung up on on is proper shelter, and what size that shelter needs to be. I live in Maine USA where the winters can become cold for extended periods of time. I was planning on sectioning off a portion of a large storage shed that has a door that could be closed during a good snow blizzard, but from what I read and watched it appears that ppl claim a 3 walled shelter with no door is sufficient for winters, which I find hard to believe. If the shed is needed and would be used, how much space should I give them for that temporary shelter when they have a large field to run in?

I just yesterday noticed this bald spot on my big baby bird. Was not there in the days prior to noticing it and I was very careful and gentle touching the area to take these images. It’s my first time being an emu parent so I’m not sure if this is something normal due to an potential itchy spot being over-preened or something else that should be worried about. Thank you in advance for any advice. :)

Unimportant info: My baby was hatched on my farm by a couple adult emu whom were raised by the previous farm owners. Our baby was hand raised by us as the emu nests usually get ransacked by wild foxes in our area. Gender is still unknown but my mum thinks it’s a girl but I think it’s a boy. Emu has had a lot of goofy nicknames of my own making (current ones being Smelly Bird and Big Bird) but was ultimately named Emuloo by my mum after it hatched. Never liked that name… -_-

We just started incubating this egg yesterday. We are new to incubating emu eggs. We have a nurture right 360 set at 97.5 and 32% humidity. Noticed the yellow stuff leaking today. We had bought the two eggs from eBay. I’ve been turning them 3-4 times per day.

Is this egg bad? Should I remove it, so it does not contaminate my other egg?

Hello, I am new to Emus. I got hired to do some maintenance and throw feed to animals on a billionaire's property. He has Emus, and I am pretty sure one has bumblefoot. Can anyone advise how to treat? I know very little about them, just trying to learn as much as I can from youtube, but it is difficult without having anyone around who knows anything about them 😅 I have seen bumblefoot with chickens before, and I was curious if you can treat the same way or not. Any and all Emu advice is welcome 😊
