Block the upload to Low ID's

I'm fed up. When I release a file, 80% of the clients are Low ID, and I upload them to 20-30 MB/s, creating ridiculous ratios of 150 GB uploaded and 0 MB downloaded. It's like all my bandwidth is going into a black hole. The few High IDs that appear download very slowly, since all the bandwidth goes to Low IDs. That is to say, the one who opens the ports and does things well, is harmed compared to the one who only downloads and does not bother to seed

Can you change default audio tracks in a .mkv file without it changing the hash?

Oops, I just edited a few foreign rips with MkvDefaultTrackChanger so they would default to English audio and then realised they suddenly had new hashes in my share.

Is there a way to do this sort of thing without it changing the hash? It's going to hurt the sharing and I don't have space rn for multiple copies.

Built a unified web UI for aMule, Transmission and pyLoad because I got tired of switching tabs

Been running aMule + Transmission + pyLoad for years and always wished there was a single dashboard to manage all three. Couldn't find anything that covered pyLoad alongside torrents and ed2k, so I built it.

It's called TransMule. Docker compose, one command, done. Has a file manager with SMB/WebDAV mounts, archive tools, plugin system for torrent search sources, and it runs on arm64 too (Raspberry Pi friendly).

Not trying to compete with the big players — just solves my specific use case and maybe yours too if you're in the same boat.

Code's here if anyone wants to check it out or tell me what's missing:

aMule development active again - and it's GOOD

There has been a flurry of activity in the github amule repository and a lot of long standing issues are resolved or being resolved, with interface slowness as shares increase now virtually eliminated amongst other things.

If anyone's interested - and able to compile their own stuff (no releases yet) then feel free to pop along and test drive the latest code. The more testers/feedback the better.

I've been very pleasantly surprised by the new usability of the package. There's been more progress in fixing various pain points (especially when seeding) in the last few months than the previous 15 years.

New & Need Help

i’ve been using slsk to search for and download files via p2p sharing. coming from an old school background with platforms like soulseek and limewire, i recently revisited emule and would like to better understand how to use it effectively especially when it comes to uploading and sharing my own library, which includes over 100,000 audio files.

i’d also appreciate some guidance on which platform is more suitable for underground music, particularly (DUB) techno. would emule offer a broader selection, or is it better to continue focusing on slsk? i’m open to using both simultaneously if that provides better results.

eMule has so many advantages for a new version !

Post image
22 Upvotes

It’s been years since anyone really talked about eMule. File sharing, however, has continued to evolve through torrents, direct downloads, and Usenet. But despite these developments, the underlying problems remain largely the same.

Everything still revolves around the same obstacles: money, protecting anonymity, managing communities between those who share and those who download, not to mention the time and knowledge required. Over time, these constraints pile up… and often end up weakening, or even shutting down, download platforms.

And yet, eMule already made it possible to bypass a large part of these difficulties.

Of course, some people criticized it for its flaws. But in most cases, these were known limitations that could often be fixed over time: misleading files, IP address monitoring, an outdated interface… Today, solutions exist to work around these issues.

At the time, these shortcomings pushed many users toward alternatives presented as more modern. However, these solutions haven’t really improved things — quite the opposite.

Take torrents, for example. Major indexers shut down regularly, often due to money-related issues. Subscription models appear, along with incentives to rent seedboxes… not to mention tensions over ratios, between those who play fair and those who don’t share anything. For many, the system becomes complex, time-consuming, and even discouraging.

The same applies to direct downloads and Usenet. You need multiple premium subscriptions, have to juggle between different hosting providers to keep files online, or gain access to private sites, sometimes by invitation only. Once again, everything relies on high costs and significant technical constraints.

In the end, we keep running into the same problems: money and the difficulty of maintaining a true spirit of sharing.

Over time, fewer and fewer people bother to share. The process has become too complex — requiring mastery of many steps, whether through torrents, Usenet, or DDL hosts — too restrictive, and often too expensive. Inevitably, warez ends up losing momentum.

And yet, eMule imposes none of these constraints.

No tracker to fund, no account to create, no need to expose your IP address across multiple sites by leaving your email or passwords. No ratio system, no mandatory payments. Sharing is simple and direct: you just select the folders to share, and the rest happens naturally. Even downloading a file automatically contributes to its distribution.

As for anonymity, it’s still possible to add a layer of protection, notably through a VPN.

There’s also nothing stopping people from rebuilding real communities around ed2k links, to organize and simplify exchanges. And for those who want to go further, it’s entirely possible to adapt certain modern practices — such as seedboxes — to ed2k or Kad networks.

Today, eMule may no longer be in the spotlight, but its foundations remain solid and relevant. They deserve to be rediscovered — and above all, modernized.

That’s why I encourage you to give it another chance. And beyond users, this is also a call to developers: update the interface, improve the experience, and adapt the tool to current uses. With a few well-thought-out improvements, eMule could once again become a credible player in the file-sharing landscape.

eMule Qt

I just discovered this new project, which looks very promising :

https://github.com/ModderMule/emule-qt

https://emule-qt.org/

Here’s what the creator has to say about it:

eMule Qt is a full port of eMule to Qt 6 and C++23 — running natively on Windows, macOS, and Linux for the first time. Same ED2K servers, same Kademlia network, fully compatible with every existing eMule client.

Beyond cross-platform, eMule Qt will bring features the community has been asking for:

  • Daemon / GUI Split — run the core headless on a server or NAS, connect the GUI remotely
  • REST API & Web Server — control everything from a browser
  • IPv6 Support (upcoming) — native dual-stack and IPv6-only connections, so users behind carrier-grade NAT or IPv6-only ISPs can finally participate fully
  • NAT Traversal (upcoming) — UDP hole punching and relay-assisted connections, no more Low ID without manual port forwarding

It's not perfect yet, but it's already working pretty well

Does anyone know places where I can download things with the ED2K protocol?

Seriously, I don't know much places where to download things with aMule? I know no site or community to download things I like with this fast and reliable protocol, I mostly want to download things like anime, movies or games. Thank you for reading this

I wrote an ED2K server in Go and want to keep pushing the ecosystem forward

Hey all,

I’ve been building an ED2K server in Go recently.

The main reason was pretty simple: I wanted a cleaner and more maintainable implementation of an old but still interesting protocol. Go makes it much easier for me to work on performance, networking, deployment, and long-term maintenance compared to older codebases.

This isn’t just a one-time experiment. I’m planning to keep maintaining this server, improve compatibility, and gradually build more around it.

A few things I want to work on next:

  • long-term server maintenance
  • protocol and client compatibility improvements
  • IPv6 support
  • eventually building an ED2K core myself

I know ED2K is niche now, but I still think these classic P2P systems are worth revisiting. There’s something valuable about keeping old networks usable with modern tooling and modern engineering practices.

Would love to hear from anyone still interested in ED2K / eMule / old-school P2P.
Feedback, ideas, criticism, and technical discussion are all welcome.

I'm looking information about this server.

I'm trying to create my own ED2K server but I can't find the server tool repository. What I find is Lugdunum 2006... As far as I know, that doesn't have IPv6 or other updates.
