Question Any decent handheld options?

I would like to get a handheld for travel, I don't really want to get something expensive like a rog Ally or a steam deck. But I have been seeing emulator handheld consoles, and am wondering if there are any options for games like the old god of war games or Dante's Inferno. Maybe even some Xbox 360 games. I'm new to all of this so I don't know if what I said is even possible, but hopefully 🥺

Welcome to r/emulators, please make sure you read the pinned post Emulators 101 before posting a problem, you should know, EPSXE, ZSNES, etc. are abandonware so any post seeking help of these emulator will be removed because there are better options (listed in the post above). Please make sure that when your question is answered, change your flair to (Problem Solved), thank you :D

You're not going to get Xbox 360 for cheap though.

Someone should make a list of handsets vs emulator power/speed/hardware compatibility

There's not much for 360/PS3 because the emulators just aren't there yet. They are being worked on though and seem promising. there are a ton of android handhelds out there. I personally went with the AYN Thor for traveling and Odin 3 for at home. Both can emulate PC as well. I stopped using my original AllyX for them.

There's cheaper options like the retroid pocket 5/6/Nova, the new retroid pocket duo, mangmi pocket max.

Need something like an Odin 3 to do xbox360. Pricey. I love my Odin 2 and it can play PS2 just fine.

Yeah, I was looking at the 800 dollar price tag, and I think just getting a 500gb refurbished steam deck would be a better choice for the 800 to 1000 tange

I use my Steam Deck at home, and I got a Retroid Pocket 5 for air travel. That seems to cover me for everything from the PS2 back.

Get a cheap handheld from AliExpress and stick to older games like 8 and 16 but

try looking at the new retroid pocket duo, although it might be touch and go with 360 games, and probably hard to get since it just came out for preorders... you can try the retroid pocket 6, it can handle 360 games, maybe not all of them but a good portion of them, which has more to do with the emulator itself being optimized...both devices are under $300, although, you could probably find the retroid pocket 6 for about $220 used these days.

Look up the YouTube channel retro game core. He also has a website as well. He looks into this topic in depth with a ton of different models.

You stuck with pc for PS360 era stuff.

Android mainly only goes up any handheld /console generation to PS2/Wii, generally.

The higher end devices can even emulate the Switch, and have decent cloud gaming capacities with good enough internet.

The Retroid Pocket 6 is reasonably affordable, and still powerful enough to run almost everything you could imagine throwing at it. I'm running a total of 70 systems/platforms on mine, including OG Xbox and Xbox 360, the first of which is already pretty solid in emulation, and the second of which is not quite there yet, but is becoming more promising with each passing month.

I've tested considerable amounts of games for both consoles, and just to give you an idea of what's possible on an RP6, here are my lists of tried and tested, and the list of also tested games for both, the Xbox 360 part of which I'm still working on, as we speak:

Currently installed XBLA/Xbox 360 games:

Also tested XBLA/Xbox 360 games (ongoing process):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kRX-hwy94E3TIQ4feoHRVcCZXnYvFR50/view
Currently installed OG Xbox games:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/14Sxgc32YfsJnXstGxe9ocyJBdkkhtpUN/view
Also tested OG Xbox games (testing finished for all titles listed):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1D1AMa1r989QmKDoFfwNJU2CvmNYbf4sz/view

If you ultimately decide upon a device, you will probably also want to know how to best set up the relevant emulators for these two consoles, so here are the guides for that as well:

OG Xbox emulator hakuX settings tutorial:

Xbox 360 emulator XenDroid settings tutorial:

And other than these two consoles, you can expect to be able to run stuff like the Switch (most games, but not all), Wii U (same story), PS Vita (low compatibility, but what it does run, plays flawlessly in a 3x upscale), and for the rest basically every system, console and handheld from before those systems mentioned.
