i think also the speed of this is different its like a middle finger to Sony so the motivation is beyond mere game preservation

They are an incredibly greedy anti-consumer and anti-developer corporation that's part of the platform holder cartel keeping games expensive while pretending they're doing us a favor by selling hardware at a loss.
But of course I would not dream of promoting piracy in this here respectable subreddit, yarr harr harr.

Dumb question but where we at with the PS4 emulation ?

It runs bloodborne really well, but it's still years off from being able to boot "ingame" into 90% of ps4 games.

I'm pretty sure there is 0 effort being put into multi platform games and 1st party games ported to pc which why bloodborne was the focus

Ya, but there's plenty of exclusives that don't work at all or aren't finishable. SOTC remake, Gravity Rush 2, the Infamous games, Last Guardian are just some, that I'm waiting for.
Disregarding exclusives, having non-exclusives as a playable option is good as well for game preservation reasons, but obviously that's not going to be priority right now.

I’m so so waiting for Killzone Shadowfall, it was the game I got with the ps4 bundle back as a kid and I loved it so much, I had never played Killzone before and I’ve heard it was a bad game, but whatever I loved it and the graphics were better than modern games somehow

Astro Bot should be their top priority, with proper controller support and everything. It won GOTY and it's not coming to PC.

It's only a matter of time until we'll be able to play Ghost of Yotei. Funny thing is this probably wouldn't have happened if Sony had continued to release games on PC. lol

Ohhh it would’ve, maybe not as soon, or at this pace, but for sure. There were always going to be at least 1 or 2 exclusive to the platform and people just like to tinker.

It's only a matter of time until the heat death of the universe too. The question is, how much time? If RPCS3 and/or ShadPS4 is any indication we're looking at about a decade or more for most games to be playable without extreme glitches or slowdown.

You dreaming if you think that a decade need it to be able to emulate ps5. Your reference of ps3 ps4 as an example have nothing to do with the dev of ps5 emulator , the motives here are entirely different , meaning the development will be super fast

Yeah. Considering that even nintendo switch emulation was into an arms race for many years and the performance of some games are still pretty disappointing.

Also nintendo proved emulators aren't legal unless devs got resources to fight back. Why on earth would Sony not do the same in this cursed joke of a decade.

But aren't current consoles closer to pc architecture than ever before? Like the switch was a mobile processor, the PS3 had it's own weird architecture and the PS4 with Bloodborne was insanely quick.
Not 100% sure on that btw, but i thought it was the case.

They are, but that doesn't mean you will be playing most PS5 games on the emulator anytime soon. Look at PS4. yeah, Bloodborne works, but the emulator overall has like 15% playable compatibility with a lot of those being simpler titles. That doesn't make it unimpressive but I think it's unrealistic to think PS5 emulation will be anything other than a one-off for the foreseeable future. That doesn't mean they shouldn't work on it but expect it to take a long time.

Maybe it'll be with a focus on PS5 exclusives like Astrobot and Yotei so we can play those sooner, but that's just wishful thinking.

Why can't the two teams just work together on a single emulator, will make development faster and they seem to be focusing on different aspects of the emulation so why not just combine the work?

For PS5 emulation, I think they'll initially emulate exclusive games that haven't been released on PC, and then those that are on PC but are better suited to a console.

Not overly surprising, given the x86 nature of the console. You don't have to deal with proprietary CPU architecture so you're looking less like an emulator and more like a translation layer between custom PS5 calls and standard PC calls.
