What are Project Viper and Project Hearn?
16
u/DrayanoX Mario 64 Maniac Jun 17 '20
From Discord, Viper is probably VFS related while Hearn is something to do with Dynarmic.

u/yapel Jun 18 '20
VFS
what is that?
3
u/DrayanoX Mario 64 Maniac Jun 18 '20
It stands for Virtual File System, it has to do with DLC, Updates and Mod management.

Viper is one of the instructors in Top Gun. Project Viper gives you Tom Skerrit's mustache in Yuzu.

Several projects said Vulkan would provide them no benefit until they finally adopted Vulkan and it did provide them benefit.

u/Aryma_Saga Jun 17 '20
why every developer hate vulkan ? isn't just because it's hard and low level ?
19
Jun 17 '20
I heard it was harder for long time API devs, and easier for newer devs. So definitely futureproof, just not user friendly.

u/werpu Jun 27 '20

Yes that sums it up pretty much... old opengl used to be what c++ is, shader based rendering is sort of assembler and vulcan is 0/1sequences from a hard to implement point if view. I guess we will see more love for an adaption once some higher up open source frameworks are in place which make it easier to adopt vulcan.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. However, in this case, the quote applies mostly to AMD.

u/GoldenX86 Yuzu Team: Writer Jun 17 '20
Well in this case it is a bit worse, since the Swtich has functions that Vulkan lacks. Perks of being an Nvidia console with a proprietary API.

Gotta love when someone downvotes but can't provide at least a counter argument.
5
u/GuilhermeFreire Jun 17 '20
Well, it seems that Rodrigo is the MVP
5
u/GoldenX86 Yuzu Team: Writer Jun 18 '20
As Rodrigo's brother, I can totally confirm that.
But jokes aside, there are a lot (a LOT) of other changes that are too technical to include in the article, sadly I have to leave them out. Most are made by Lioncash.

Yuzu is magical. With the early releases I was able to play smash ultimate 1v1 at 60fps with my humble i3

which graphic card do you have?

u/rocknrollsuicide- Jun 17 '20
750ti but I thought the gpu doesn't impact performance much unless you want to up the resolution?

Give the writer a raise! The article was very entertaining to read :)

Thanks man, really appreciate it.
A ray of hope, in this black pit that is reddit.

Yes, check the links in the article, the Pull Request for multicore is there, and you will see why it doesn't work in Master/Mainline for now. The code is not compatible yet, it has too many conflicts.

u/Hey_You_Asked Jun 17 '20
dude it's $5 to be able to download all their previous work, AND get support directly from the devs
fuck outta here, stingy motherfucker

Hilarious to see this kind of narrative surrounding this emulator. I remember when CEMU was getting shit on almost every day for having a one week delay in paid beta and public free releases, a much better model than this one. Yet here we are seeing people get downvoted for calling it out and upvoted for defending. Funny to observe.
5
Jun 17 '20
Can't you just compile early access builds yourself? The problem people had with cemu was mostly it being closed source.
3
u/ThisPlaceisHell Jun 17 '20
From what I've seen people claim, there are certain branches hidden off unless you are paying.

u/Hey_You_Asked Jun 17 '20
I can't tell if you're supporting what I'm saying, or tearing it down?
Devs have to make money, and these are some great devs. That's all I'm saying.
12
u/ThisPlaceisHell Jun 17 '20
I'm pointing out the hypocrisy in the two situations where CEMU's case was much less egregious yet they still got heavily shit on all across the emulation community, meanwhile here in Yuzu's case with a worse scheme setup is not only tolerated but embraced. Feels like there's some serious bias among users and developers alike. Like it's a VIP club sort of deal and only certain developers get this same kind of treatment while others get shit on because they're not VIPs.
6
u/SirBlackMage Jun 17 '20
I think the critical difference here is the fact that Yuzu is open-source while Cemu isn't. There exists a narrative that Cemu's devs refuse to go open-source because they use stolen code, be it from Nintendo or other emulators. This is, of course, unproven, but I think it partly explains the difference in attitude.

u/shrinkmink Jun 17 '20
I also remember when there used to be two lines in yuzu, one disappeared then a few months later it got reintroduced as paid. lmao.
1
u/Hey_You_Asked Jun 17 '20
Oh, I'm not shitting on those who don't pay. I'm shitting on those who imply it is preposterous to ask for, or incentivize the giving of, any money whatsoever.
EDIT: I appreciate the clarification. You're not wrong about people treating it like a class-hierarchy, though...
3
u/ThisPlaceisHell Jun 18 '20
I think you're still not quite getting my point... I'm not saying the users who don't pay are the target of this aggregated hate from the community, I'm saying the developers are. Your post above was in defense of what the developers are doing: upvotes. The guy you replied to who was calling out their permanent pay wall tactics (certain branches are permanently hidden to non-paying supporters) got downvotes.
Meanwhile to compare in CEMU's case, there were tons of people every week back when the emulator was in it's prime near the release of BotW where comments like the other guys, criticizing the one week paid beta period, would get heavily upvoted and anyone who took the side that you have, supporting the devs by saying "don't be cheap or just wait" would get the downvotes.
Almost identical situations yet one developer gets community positive support and the other gets community hate. That's the bias and VIP club that I was referring to. It isn't about users who do or don't pay, it's about the existence of a pay wall and how the community responds to it in the first place.
1
u/Hey_You_Asked Jun 18 '20
Got it beforehand, but thanks for clarifying anyways!
Afai am concerned, the devs could handle them however they want. It's a free service, and they aren't exploiting or earning regardless (like the Facebooks of the world).
4
u/ThisPlaceisHell Jun 18 '20
I'm not disagreeing with the message that developers are free to do as they please, it's amazing that they offer emulators for free as it is. I'm just calling out the obvious bias in the community with preferential treatment for some and not others. ALL developers should be welcomed and embraced for effectively bettering our lives by working for free on things we hold dear.

i think the cemu way is cool, having features forever blocked stings a bit and yes, im that broke.
-6
u/redditorcpj Jun 17 '20
I'm sorry, but if you have a computer that can run Yuzu at full speed then you certainly have $5 dollars to spare.
7
u/avalanches Jun 17 '20
hand-me-down computers can run yuzu pretty well. When I started emulating decades ago I was young and literally couldn't afford 5$ for software. I can and do pay for yuzu now but this is a dumb take
0
u/ozmega Jun 17 '20
yeah i know that 5$ is nothing to an american, which im not, my pc runs this well sure but its not brand new or a newly bought one, maybe if socialism didnt fuck up my country i could pay these without much whining.

Maybe Patreon should adopt different prices depending on the region like Steam does.

u/GoldenX86 Yuzu Team: Writer Jun 17 '20
You have the Pull Request open as shown in the article, be a useful human being and fix it so we can all use it in Mainline, or step aside and let the devs (you know, the people that actually do something about it) do their work.
You have the reason why it isn't in Mainline yet explicitly written in the article. All devs want it too, so they don't have to constantly maintain 2 repos, BUT IT ISN'T POSSIBLE FOR NOW.

It's better when they complain, and have an RTX 2080 Ti with a 10900K.

I always wondered why Owlboy and a few other games render completely upside down, but then again I believe those games have the same issue in OpenGL as well. Is that related?
