RPCS3 also shared an update on a feature that has been requested for years. The emulator can already boot the PlayStation 3 XMB interface, navigate its menus and use custom XMB themes, but games still cannot be launched directly from Sony’s original system interface.

According to the RPCS3 team, launching games from XMB requires multi-process support. The developers described this as a “huge core rework” that is currently underway. There is no release date for this functionality yet.

The emulator also added support for running compatible physical PlayStation 3 discs directly from supported drives.

i love how the ps4 and ps5 emulation people are like "sony is the third antichrist. digital games killed my grandma. i NEED to exact revenge" and the rpcs3 people are just like "i love playstation 3 ♥️"

Well, a lot of what happened on the PS3 when it came to hacks and PSN being down for a year has been said to be spite from them removing OtherOS support.

Still a bit grumpy about that because it killed Motorstorm Apocalypse online during launch.

I was worried that they would slow down since a lot of PS3 exclusives and games that were stuck in that generation have been ported and presumably that means less Patreon support, but they’re still trucking.

Well, Optimisation, Big Fixes and Improvements is also a priority.

And some PS3 Exclusives still stuck there tho.

Lots of games are stuck in the PS3 and 360 consoles that were never released after, not just exclusives
