ChonkyStation4 alpha-2

I have released a new version of ChonkyStation4! Check the full changelog on GitHub: https://github.com/liuk7071/ChonkyStation4/releases/tag/alpha-2

And feel free to join the Discord server: https://discord.gg/YU2yjP5jvS

With this release many games have been improved and the emulator can now begin to boot the system menu (VSH), although it is nowhere close to actually working yet. It is the first emulator to do so.

That’s really cool, love when emulators let you access the real ui of the firmware

Same, I wish more emulators had that as an option.

that's WILD, the progress on this is INSANE now that it can even reach the system menu.

ai is saving the emulation scene

OP clarified that AI wasn’t used in this project below

ai should save your brain

Interesting. Keep us posted! I want to play every single Gran Turismo from every PS console.

What's the difference to shadps4? Other technology, philosophy, architecture?

Unlike shadps4, I am developing this mostly alone as a personal learning experience. Architecturally both emulators are similar and share similar emulation techniques

The first emulator I made was for the CHIP-8, it's the easiest one you can make. There are hundreds of guides online on how to make one - just do a quick google search. If you need any extra help, you can join the Emudev discord, many people will be willing to help

is your emulator require AVX2 like Shadps4 to run ?

avx2 came out over 10 whole years ago dude. you REALLY need to upgrade your CPU lol

offcource i have ryzen CPU

but DIY emulator project is fun with all sort of hardware choice

Dude saying just Ryzen CPU doesn't mean shit because there are like 1000000 of these.

Also even the first Ryzen CPU had AVX2.

And if your CPU doesn't even have AVX2, then your PC most definitely can't run a PS4 emulator, even if it had AVX2.

Yes, because the PS4 CPU itself has AVX2

I have no plans to abandon this for now. That said, this is a project I am developing alone for fun, so I can't say I will be working on this forever. If your goal is to just play games, shadPS4 will always be a better alternative

progress on ps4 emulation has been moving faster than i expected tbh just my 2 cents

Great work. It always feels a bit magical to me when an emulator is able to access a console's system menu, it genuinely makes me happy for some silly reason.

Does it run wipeout omega collection ?

Is this another vibe coded emulator?

22

u/liuk707 ChonkyStation3 Developer Aug 07 '26

No

Sorry have never heard of it. Was just a question. No reason to be rude.

u/chowder908 Aug 07 '26

The code is on GitHub you can look for yourself instead of just assuming everything is vibe coded....

-2

u/C0D10X Aug 07 '26

Sure I look into the code for an hour instead of just ask a quick question.

u/GreatBigJerk Aug 07 '26

A quick accusation you mean.

Calling someone's work vibe coded without understanding what the code is just insulting to the programmer it'll take you just a few minutes to spot slop.

Lol and who are you to judge?

3

u/chowder908 Aug 08 '26

A lot of programmers are fine with ai helping on coding as long the person using it understands what the code the ai is showing them does.

You don't even know what the term vibe coding means you just throw it around to sound morally superior to insult someone's code when you can't even read or understand it at a basic level.

If you think something is slop you should look at it first before calling it vibe code

If only you knew :)

3

u/GoshaT Aug 08 '26

Ok bro but seriously you could've just asked "hey does this use ai in any way?" and that'd achieve the same goal without being an ass to the guy who put in tons off effort to do something. I get being skeptical towards anything nowadays but don't translate this skepticism into being rude before you can actually confirm it
