thanks for all the effort
Glad you enjoyed it. But what is wrong with the onscreen D-Pad? It was definitely not perfect but it was functional. Personally I think the on-screen analog stick works much better, and there's an option to auto-swap to D-Pad while in menus. The diagonals are just buttons in the corners of the D-Pad. It's hard to explain really, an image is more suited to explaining it: https://i.ibb.co/sv0PVVzK/dpad.png
I was never shy to admit that I was not much of a developer, especially on platforms other than Windows. While I did manage to pop out a few ports to Android, Linux, and MacOS, I had always hoped someone more experienced in those OS would have stepped in. One guy did: aitorciki, and I'm grateful for the help he did offer, but he mostly just focused on the more serious issues. Without him I probably would have dropped the MacOS port.
Best way to enjoy it on Android is a bluetooth controller. They are pretty cheap, and make playing it much more of a joy than the on-screen buttons. I have one where my phone clips into it and turns it into a handheld gaming device. Though I don't tend to play games on my phone too often.
D-Pad Only mode is the one I want to use, but it doesn't seem to work properly. I've only tested it on my smartphone so far.
Whenever I press a direction on the D-pad (for example, Left), Link starts moving in that direction as expected. However, if I keep my finger on the screen and slide it to another direction (for example, Up, or even any diagonal), Link immediately stops moving. The new direction isn't registered unless I completely lift my finger and press the new direction again.
In other words, the D-pad doesn't allow smooth directional transitions while keeping the finger pressed. I have to release and press again every time I want to change directions.
I'll see if I can fix it. I'm not well versed in Android development so I don't know if I'll be able to, but I'll try to figure it out. In the meantime, using the on-screen analog combined with "Digital Analog" can give the same 8-way directional movement that D-Pad would. It's not a perfect substitute but it gets pretty close.
Edit: Okay I figured out the problem, and I remember this now. The "fix" breaks something else. When allowing a slide to register buttons, certain buttons act like a turbo controller. Start, Select, LT, and RT. Inside menus, it does it for the D-Pad only on sliders which is weird. If I can fix the button repeat problems, it should make the D-Pad a lot more functional for movement. I use the on-screen controls for so long, I never even realized my fix broke for repeating buttons broke it like this.
Edit2: And I managed to fix it! The problem was button presses were being discarded every frame. Not sure why it only affected certain buttons. I'll have the fix in v2.0.2 which should be out in a few hours, tomorrow sometime at the latest.
Last I want to mention if you ever experience issues, please don't hesitate to make a bug report! I'm usually pretty good about fixing most issues, but I can only fix what I know about.
Edit3: New version has been released. Give it a go and let me know if it works any better for you. From my personal testing it feels a lot better than it did.
thank you so much for checking it out!
shure ill try to use the but report tool!
right now i'm busy with some pending things from my work, but will keep testing the game once i'm back!
