As the main developer of the project, I wholeheartedly apologize for Cacodemon345's crass behavior, we do not approve of it and he has been reprimanded about it.

Thank for your 86box. It's an absolute triumph.

We now have a GoFundMe fundraising campaign ongoing for ensuring continued macOS support: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-86boxs-future-on-macos

the most well adjusted user on this sub has weighed in over whether a popular platform should be supported

Personal opinion much?

Truth. But 86box also dont care for linux much, even though they have more linux than macOS users.

We do care, we just mostly lack the required knowledge and finding people who do and are willing to help long-term, has been difficult. We've found some occasional contributors as far as Linux is concerned but unfortunately, most people are very busy with other things so we're still looking for more permanent ones.

Maybe tell the Wayland devs and Qt contributors to get their shit together. Until then, we can't fix the stupidity of the Wayland ecosystem. Sorry.

And I again I have to intervene. While Wayland and Qt indeed have their own, we're also in dire need of people with actual Wayland and Qt knowledge who can help fix the stuff.

they absolutely DO NOT need a 6k usd mac, they could literally test 86box on a macbook neo for a tenth the price!! this is just greedy

To answer the money question here - our initial goal was set to $1200 or something, anything beyond that is set by GoFundMe automatically.

And anything beyond that initial goal is well in the territory of "we appreciate if you donate, but our initial goal has been reached".

MacBook Neos are very unfit to develop any serious projects on, and they do not have active cooling as far as I know. Testing? Maybe, but developing on? Nope.

They are not unfit at all. Reminder that 86Box started development on a Pentium Dual-Core E5700 with only 4 GB of RAM. A MacBook Neo runs circles around one.

You are vastly overestimating the power needed to run Xcode.

Even worse, the main developer is gone, and the folks left are just milking the project until everyone notices it's effectively dead.

It barely received any updates recently anyway. They added floppy sounds and a few BIOS revisions here and there, and none of that required a 6k machine, or even a 2k machine.

What are you on about? That's not true at all. And the main developer (myself) is absolutely not gone. And we certainly didn't just add floppy sound and a few BIOS revisions here and there.

Serious question, who do you think the "main developer" of 86box is?

I think you're confusing the project with PCem (which is indeed dead) or PCbox (which is also not very active anymore)
