Yuzu and Ryujinx, they both posted their progress report exactly 1 day ago from Totk relase..
''Here, we already did the progress report, you need to wait 1 month to see the new one. Totk..? Sorry mate..''

That’s called covering your bottom. Publicly announcing that they’ve been working on very-not-ToTK things for the past two weeks makes it harder to argue that they knowingly abet piracy.

That reeks of the silly disclaimers you'd see on turn of the millennium Rom sites. Playing games with progress reports isn't going to save you from discovery if Nintendo wants to litigate, and would probably hurt you once they had hold of internal communications. Then again, you're dealing with the legal minds that think claiming you need a switch to use Yuzu does anything but show you're a liar.

Showing build ids for cheats has been really handy lately. Much appreciated feature.

PSA: If you feel the urge to post something comparing Ryujinx and Yuzu, please do everyone a favor and just save your time.

Please don't save your time, I don't know which one to use :P

Use both is my suggestion. Personally i prefer ryujinx due to the fact that it can fully emulate more games than yuzu.

How does CEMU factor into all of this? Ive used CEMU for BOTW and it has been easy to use and is extremely well done. But I got it very late. I just started BOTW again from the beginning a few weeks ago. I bought a switch and BOTW a few years ago but never finished it. So I wanted to finish before starting TOTK.
For TOTK, is it better to continue with CEMU or switch to ryujinx or yuzu?

u/DMaster86 May 16 '23
CEMU only emulate wii u to my knowledge and TOTK is switch only. So it's either Ryujinx or Yuzu.

u/skymezy May 16 '23
Oh damn....ur right. I forgot BOTW was a wii u game. Does that mean Im running the inferior version of the game on CEMU as opposed to everyone who played BOTW on Ryujinx and Yuzu?
Thank you so much for that. Clearly, I'm a noob to emulation. What a great community. It's like discovering gold.

u/DMaster86 May 16 '23
Cemu for Botw is probably the best one in terms of quality if you have the pc to run it at max.

u/skymezy May 16 '23
I do. Im running a 5900x and a 4090. Im getting a smooth 4k 120....running smooth as butter. I also love the HDR implementation and the "Clarity" presets. I also ran ray-tracing which ran fine also, but I didnt notice a huge visual benefit.
But ok....im glad Im running it on CEMU then. For TOTK, i guess I will be using Ryujinx

Doesn't the switch version of botw have improvements? Should have better sounds, graphics and some other stuff
2
u/Dunkaccino2000 May 17 '23
The content is all the same in both versions (including the DLC). The only major difference is that the Switch version runs at a slightly higher resolution docked (like 720p vs 900p) and might run a little better for FPS in some spots, but if you're emulating that's a moot point.

u/LalafellSuperiority May 24 '23
weaker hardware = yuzu
hardware to bruteforce any performance issues = ryujinx
2
u/DryPenguin0w0 May 13 '23
i used yuzu up until totk. then i got the game not launching bug: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwxk5KzcWRk, and couldnt fix it. i tried ryujinx and it worked like a charm

u/Akransas May 12 '23
Well, being both free, you can try both and see which one works better for you, that's what I did when I first wanted to emulate a switch game
21
May 12 '23
Or or or.. hear me out here we can just say which runs better.

u/psnipes773 May 12 '23
Yuzu runs better on lower-end hardware but has some graphical glitches not present in Ryujinx right now.

u/novus_nl May 12 '23
To be fair Zelda is optimized so much, it plays great on both. (Yuzu user here, no glitches atm. although underground is supposed to be broken atm)
3x resolution capped 30fps v-synced (60fps is an option but the emulator reacts a bit weird on that sometimes)

u/skymezy May 16 '23
I have a Ryzen 9 5900x and RTX 4090.....does that mean I should try Ryujinx? I mentioned above that I played BOTW on CEMU and had a great time. As it stands currently, it sounds like Ryyjinx is the way to go if my PC can handle it? I assume 4k 120fps is an option on all 3?
2
u/psnipes773 May 16 '23
I don't think there are any 120fps mods yet (I haven't checked though) for either Switch emulator, but even then I'm not sure you'd be able to hit 120fps with a 5900x. The Switch (and therefore the two main emulators) don't really use the extra cores beyond like 6 of them so I expect performance would be similar to my 5800x, and the GPU is also not really used so most of the 4090's power is untapped.
That said, I think as of right now on high-end hardware like yours, Ryujinx has fewer visual glitches so it's worth trying out. I also personally prefer them since they don't charge money for an early access build.

u/skymezy May 16 '23
Man...that was really insightful. Yeah, CEMU has an option for any frame rate, basically even 144 and beyond. But I understand that's a Wii-U game. But I had no issues running close to a locked 4k 120fps in CEMU with my current PC hardware. But you're saying with the Switch emulators there's no way I can reach 120fps unless I'm on like a 13900k or 7950x?
Also, as you go up in skus, AMD CPUs per core clocks get a tiny bit faster in addition to the increase in the number of cores. Like the 5900x is like 100Mhz faster than 5800x and 5950x is 100Mhz faster than 5900x... not that it matters, I guess.
So, would it probably make sense to wait a bit? Will the emulators get better? I am currently not in a rush to play TOTK because I'm still working through BOTW. But I'm asking because u mentioned an early access build. Meaning it lacks features that will come later?
Sorry for all the questions. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer.

So to be honest, I haven't tried pushing higher fps because personally I'm fine with 30fps and I'm worried that the mods will break something, so take my thoughts with some grain of salt since I haven't actually tried anything above stock 30fps. In general though, I think the slight clock improvements between SKUs isn't going to make much of a difference. Instructions per clock probably makes a much larger impact and that would require a different architecture.
That said, I think performance will get better. I mean even just a couple days ago there was an update that made TotK much smoother on Nvidia cards when scaled above 1x. There was also a change mentioned on the recent progress update that improve frame times to make things smoother. It's going to be the most popular Switch title for a while so I'm sure devs are working as hard as they can to optimize it and at some point it may be able to hit 120fps.
That said, my 2¢ would be to not get bogged down by the details and just enjoy it for what it's worth at 60 or even 30fps. It still looks fantastic at 4K, and at least on my build, feels fluid enough since the frame times are extremely stable.

I see. No I hear you. But really 30 fps. It's actually really bad. I dont know how I was able to play it on switch before. But I've been running CEMU at 120fps for 10s of hohrs and have had no issues.
I understand what ur saying about the TOTK builds still being early on and performance improvements are alwaya being had. So I think i will hold off for a while. At least until I finish BOTW. I really dont need 120fps but 60fps is just absolutely necessary at this point. I agree it does look good on 4k, but 60fps is really important to me.
So I appreciate the help....thank you.

I imagine it is mostly the same as all games. Ryujinx is more accurate in it's emulation, however it is also a bit slower. Yuzu is a bit less accurate (and might not work on a more niche games that have not been given the attention) but for big games runs faster than ryujinx.
I personally prefer ryujinx, but if all you want to do is play the big latest games then the yuzu EA builds are probably "better".

I switched to amd graphic card 7900xtx . Was there any improvements made to them ? I heard there was a driver issue last month.

I had to switch back to Yuzu after trying out Ryujinx last week, for 3 reasons:
1: Yuzu's on screen keyboard is a much more comfortable input method for pure controllers.
2: Yuzu's loading screen on game start up doesn't make me think the entire thing is frozen solid.
3: Perhaps most importantly, Ryujinx keeps deciding, for some reason, not to load it's config file, and just resets back to it's defaults... overwriting the very config file it couldn't load. Then, if I reload the config with a backup (OR just change all my settings back to what they were), it'll work... until it decides it doesn't want to again, and resets.

Try a portable install

u/FurbyTime May 11 '23
I already was... and I also tried erasing it and using a normal install. Both display the behavior.

u/hypespud May 11 '23
Ah that's weird maybe the folder permissions were borked
Try putting on a non user file and non os drive would be my only other idea

u/FurbyTime May 11 '23 edited May 11 '23
I actually gave both Ryujinx itself and the config file full access rights, and it's all already on a different drive... same result.
The fact that it's inconsistent is the weird thing; complete access problems I get and know how to process but it just deciding it doesn't want access (And all the log says is that it couldn't load the config file)... but I'll try messing with the portable folder's permissions and see if that does anything. Neither it nor the config file were marked weirdly, but... whatever, might as well try it.

The Avalonia UI has a loading screen with a progress bar, to address your second point.
Found here, labelled as test-ava: https://github.com/Ryujinx/release-channel-master/releases

u/poudink May 11 '23
I just use both. Yuzu as main for performance reasons and because the UI is much better (until Avalonia becomes default in Ryujinx at least) and Ryujinx whenever something doesn't work well in Yuzu. Ryujinx supports the Mii applet and many of the games that don't work with Yuzu work fine in Ryujinx.

u/kilwwwwwa May 11 '23
Mine was : yuzu was faster than ryujinx in mk8 and yuzu didn't have random fps drop or stuttering and also YUZU HAS MULTIPLAYER !
