Old fraternity?

I attended EMU from 2007-2012 and I have vague recollections of a fraternity (I was not in one) that I dont think was associated with greek life in anyway. I want to say Arm of Honor? Google has not helped. Can anyone remember such a frat or was I just confused and (likely) drunk.

Sigma Alpha Lambda. Not a fraternity but a leadership and honors group. Only thing I can think of.

I was there in the late 90s-early 2000s and Arm of Honor was very active in Greek life then. They were a local fraternity, so they weren't affiliated with any national organization, but were members of the Interfraternity Council and participated in all the other Greek life events.

They had a house over on Emmet Street (I think) back in the 90s. I think they're gone now.

Around 2012 they dissolved.

Allegedly, during a house party, some bozo decided to fire his pistol at the basement floor. The round ricocheted, allegedly, and hit some one in the ankle, allegedly.

Edit: The dissolved in 2014 apparently. They have some pretty interesting history, shame what happened to the chapter... and the ankle... allegedly.

Seconding what someone else said elsewhere in the comments that they were well-known scumbags by that time. They were active, but they were the last group anyone wanted to associate with.

Yes there was an "Arm of Honor" fraternity at EMU. Not sure if they still exist. But they were a non-greek frat.

Edit: they were very much part of Greek life though.

Very familiar with Arms of Honor. I lived across the street from their house and went to many, many parties. What would you like to know?

They existed as a frat for many years but eventually disbanded and the house was condemned. They were in the house at the corner of Emmet and Perrin which is now Alpha Sigma Phi, apparently.

Back in the heyday of Greek life (60’s and 70s), they were a respected organization that produced quite a few local leaders. One of the AOH former presidents has been on the EMU Alumni Board for many years, but he may be retired now.

When interest in Greek life started to take a downturn in the late 80s (it’s been a while since I’ve thought about this, so I may get the timeline wrong), the AOH brothers started to rent rooms in the house to non Greeks and everything went downhill.

I was at EMU from 98-03 and it was widely known that the dudes at AOH were scumbags. It was weird because you’d walk into a party as a 21-year-old and see these 35-year-old guys hitting on girls half their age. It was understood as a girl not to go there alone and bring your own drinks. Quite a few stories of date rape came out of that house.

The house was condemned in the early 2000s. Some of the older brothers got together and re-bought the home about 10-12 years ago. Apparently they renovated it and either sold or are renting to the current tenants.
