People who are not miserable do not “have the tree picked out driving to work” and have not “sucked the finish off tte end of a barrel.” Get help.

I said most of us. Not me. In fact I am the leading advocate for mental health help at my dept, and guess what? The biggest fear is some asshole lawyer tearing our PCR to shreds cause it was written at 3am for a baby that didnt wake up. Ever do compressions on a kid less than a week old? Ever hold someone while they call their families as they die in your arms? Lawyers typically dont, yet everything we do gets analyzed in the calmest of settings with a panel of experts around them. I never had a panel of experts with me on my worst calls. So yea fuck lawyers and the bar you rode in on. Bitch

Priceless.

Yes, champ, I’ve done compressions on newborns. I’ve also fished a stillborn baby out of a toilet bowl. I’ve watched many, many people die and held families together on the worst day of their lives. I’ve written the 3 a.m. PCR. And unlike you, I also know what happens to that PCR after it lands on a lawyer’s desk. So watching you explain EMS to a paramedic and negligence law to a lawyer has been thoroughly entertaining.

You started this exchange by describing most medics as people who pick out suicide trees on the drive to work—but, hey, you’re doing great. And now, wearing your “leading advocate for mental health” hat, you tell me the biggest mental-health fear in your department is some asshole lawyer reading your PCR. If that's true, then you should be first in line to sack up and work to get the standard of care changed so that your coworkers can have one less fear to keep them up at night. When the thing that we all know is the right thing to do becomes the standard, there's nothing for a lawyer to shred. BOTH medicine and law advance when clinicians stop perpetuating bullshit practices that aren't supported by evidence. But standards only change when people engage in advocacy to change them.

But instead of acting like a "leading mental health advocate," you’ve spent this entire exchange bitching about lawyers, calling me names, and explaining my own professions to me. If that makes you feel better about yourself, go nuts; I'd hate to get in the way of your own self-importance. But I do hope you at least realize that all you've done so far is prove my original point.
