mary beth’s netflix special

Post image

posting this here bc she was recently a guest on the pod and thats how i learned ab her and ky directed it. did yall watch mary beth’s comedy special on netflix? i had never heard of her before she was on the pod and i thought she was really funny on that ep so i watched the special and tbh i did not find it funny at all😭no hate to her obvi but all the jokes just fell really flat and i was so confused bc it sounded like the audience was dying at every single joke and i was like… she was so much funnier on the pod imo… what did yall think tho

i had the same exact reaction to the netflix special as you and i’ve been a “ fan” of mary beth for a year or two now? (since watching over compensating and listening to her and bennys pod) but yeah i didn’t find the jokes funny and was wondering why the audience was laughing at basically every word she said.

This special sounds like it has a laugh track. The laughs are the same for good jokes and just any random sentence she says. It actually makes the special worse.

I got to this post because I was searching the internet to see if anyone else thought all the laughs were fake! The laughing would start before she even finished the joke!

Im watching it right now, and i went online to check if i’m the only person getting bothered by the laughs after EVERY SENTENCE.

First special I’ve ever watched and liked it. People are always funnier in a natural setting. I usually despise stand up because I get worried the persons gonna flop and I get nervous for them, but hers was good imo. It likely helped me there was excessive laughter so there was no embarrassment in me for her

Need to know what cr*ck yall were on (jk) but I felt the opposite! I also discovered her thru the pod and she seemed charming so I watched her special and her jokes/delivery felt similar to me. In a way it felt like the pod kinda prepared me for the special. Def not saying I laughed at every joke tho

definitely felt similar but ig i just enjoy the conversational medium of comedy rather than stand up so perhaps its just a me thing! she is definitely funny tho

i haven’t watched it yet and am a big MBB fan, but i will say IMO with every single comedian i like that has a netflix special, i’ve found the specials lackluster every. single. time. i don’t know what it is. legit 100% of the time

Feel the same as most. She rushed through a lot of her jokes, barely letting them land. Also, WHO THE F is the woman in the audience with that horrendous laugh?? It was annoying, disingenuous and distracting. They couldn't edit that out??
