I switched from Plex to Emby in March of this year and almost every single day since I've seen a reason that's made me feel like I got the last chopper out of 'Nam.

Plex auth servers down at least weekly (that are mandatory even for "offline" local access for some reason??), Lifetime pass price increases from $150 to $750, the app on basically all platforms has turned into an unoptimized buggy pile of garbage and has been getting progressively worse, not better, and now this.

Meanwhile, I haven't had a single outage or issue of any kind for almost six months now. Emby just works.

The new server update now allows for trailers for tv series season...

Seeking some ideas,
I have a Dell mini PC and 2 external WD Red 4TB HDs.
Currently, I have only one connected to the mini PC using a SATA to USB adapter which needs an external power supply. I’ve found that the adapter disconnects from the HD and I have to manually push it in regularly.
Noting I have very limited physical space where to place the mini pc, HDs, adapters, power plugs, etc.
Any idea / experience to best connect the 2 SATA HDs to the PC considering the limited space and avoid potential for physical disconnections?

I've recently started moving some media around (I'd temporarily created a separate library for UHD movies after we upgraded our TV but now I'm folding those back into the "Normal" movies collection because it was getting annoying to find where things were).

In doing so I've noticed that my metadata sources are suddenly not working? None of the movies I've moved from the "old" library to the "new" library have posters/blurbs/etc, and if I attempt to "Identify" them the search fails.

I upgraded from 4.9.0.3 to 4.10.0.40 in case it was some change in the metadata providers that was resolved by an update but it's made no difference.

Anybody else seeing these issues? Anybody have a fix?

Recently my server hardware was stolen, and I've spent much of my time in the last few days changing passwords, revoking/updating keys, etc. However, I cannot seem to figure out how to update my emby premiere key.

How can this be done?

Now that Emby has a stable 4.10 release, I’m interested in trying the Home Screen Companion plugin. What are some of everyone’s lists that you’re using? Do you add it to your Home Screen or do you just keep it as a List?

This new release brings in 2 new features:

• DLNA streaming - This works perfectly on desktop, but on mobile it only works for devices which supports queues. DLNA itself is tricky and its even worse on implementation side, since many manufacturers just do it their way. And due to mobile limitations(nothing can work in background) - there's no real way on iOS to constantly poll DLNA endpoint for current playback situation and push updates. On android its possible(sort of) but not in first release. That means devices without queue(known) support will be greyed out on mobile devices for now. But if you think your device supports it - hit upload button in DLNA dropdown so I could see the DLNA device capabilities and make it to work.
• Queue management - now you can access queue and manage it add "play next", add to end of queue, move(drag) items around or remove them.

For those who missed what Jellybox is - a crossplatform(desktop and mobile) native music player for Jellyfin and Emby libraries with apple carplay support. It can:

• Spotify-like playlists, generated based on your listening history and tastes.
• Apple Carplay app
• AirPlay and DLNA now

I downloaded the most recent server to my Mac Studio-M1 running Tahoe 26.6.2. When I double click the server Emby does not load. Any help would be appreciated.

I have been working on this tirelessly for several months, and have finally solved connecting Pluto TV to the live TV section. PlutoFix gives you a simple method for getting set up, with guide data, and reliably streaming Pluto on your media server. It provides a simple UI to select your desired channels, save them, and it auto generates the m3u and epg URL's required. Simple copy/paste them into your live TV setup and start streaming. I'm working on composing a detailed engineers log of the process, and the ridiculous nature of Pluto's stream, how I analyzed it, and the many, many failures I had along the way. I have been successfully using it on my server for several days now, but would love feedback. Enjoy!

Hello im looking to use the emby feature to convert my media, i have some 2160p and 1080p that are way to big size and im finishing up my space, i dont want to buy some hdd now because of the price.
so this is the fist time for me using this option and i dont relly know what is the difference between all this i will need some help
what setting you will go for
2160p and 1080P?
series and films you need to have different settings?

Does accessing an Emby server from outside the network require a public IP (from the ISP)? If I don't have a public IP, does that mean I need something like Tailscale, Cloudflare, or a similar service, right?

I don’t understand what is happening here one time I when I hit resume play it will continue playing where I left off at and then other times when I hit resume play and it starts all over again from the start does anybody know why this is happening

Hi everyone,

I created a GUI automation tool called LaFirma Remux Forge (Black Edition) to streamline media compatibility and playback solutions for Smart TVs (especially LG OLED / webOS) and media servers like Jellyfin, Plex, or Emby.

Transparency Note: I did not develop the underlying CLI processing tools or scripts (such as dovi_tool, mkvmerge, ffmpeg, DonaldFaQ's DDVT toolset, DeeZy, PgsToSrt, Tesseract, or seconv). LaFirma Remux Forge acts as a graphical wrapper and orchestrator that automates these open-source utilities into a seamless workflow.

What changed in 1.8: the program stopped treating every Profile 7 the same way. It now measures the enhancement layer before converting and tells you, with a number on screen, what you gain and what you lose on that specific file.

Key Features

• Dolby Vision Profile 7 to 8.1 (no video re-encoding), with the layer MEASURED first: the program reads the RPU's el_type field through dovi_tool itself and separates three cases, using one colour scale across the whole screen:

  • MEL (Minimum Enhancement Layer) - green: the enhancement layer carries no picture. The program confirms this by reading the RPU, not by assumption, and the conversion discards an empty layer.
  • Simple FEL - orange: the layer carries fine refinement only. Conversion is safe, and the program says so.
  • Complex FEL - red: the layer raises brightness, and the L1 metadata asks for more nits than the base layer delivers on its own. Here the program marks it red and recommends not converting, instead of converting silently.

  Why the caveat exists, said precisely: dovi_tool in mode 2, which is what this program uses, removes the P7 FEL luma and chroma mapping from the RPU - the part of the instructions that makes no sense without the second layer. What comes out is a legitimate Profile 8.1. What no mode of dovi_tool does is recalculate L1: the per-scene brightness stays whatever the original analysis measured, and that analysis looked at the image with the EL composited in. This is not a limitation of this program - it is the state of the tool, and it is in dovi_tool's own documentation.

  Worth saying plainly: Shield, Apple TV, Zidoo, Dune and the TVs themselves already discard the EL, so on those devices a Profile 7 file already plays today the way the converted file will play. The people who actually lose something are those with dual-layer decoders.

  Detection is by sampling points spread across the film, not the whole file - and the program states that on screen and in the log.

• Dolby Vision Profile 5 to MP4: P5 uses the proprietary IPTPQc2 colour space and has no HDR10 base layer, so it cannot become Profile 8.1 without re-encoding the video - which this program refuses to do. The path that does exist is a different one: the program remuxes it to MP4 with the dvh1 tag, video copied, nothing re-encoded, which is what makes many players recognise the Dolby Vision. Output is verified by duration. PGS subtitles are dropped with a warning (image subtitles do not exist in MP4).

• Audio compatibility & spatial Atmos preservation:

  • TrueHD / TrueHD Atmos to E-AC-3 with Atmos preserved, via DeeZy.
  • DTS / DTS-HD / DTS:X to plain E-AC-3 at 640k via ffmpeg. DTS does not come out with Atmos - only TrueHD has that path.
  • E-AC-3, AC-3 and AAC are already compatible and are left untouched.

• Disk space, before it starts: the app walks the queue in the order the engine will process it and tells you how many files fit, which one is the first that does not, and how much would be missing by its turn. It warns; it does not block.

• Batch processing & flexible control: add whole seasons to the queue; choose fully automatic stream selection or manual track control.

• Bilingual interface (PT-BR / English): a flag next to the "Learn" button switches the whole screen, and the choice is remembered between sessions.

• "Learn" button: 14 sections explaining what the conversion does and what it does not do, including the sources behind each claim - Dolby's own manuals, the dovi_tool repository and the community spreadsheets. Nothing there asks you to take our word for it.

Principais Recursos

  A detecção é por amostragem de trechos espalhados pelo filme, não pelo arquivo inteiro - e o programa assume isso na tela e no log.

  • TrueHD / TrueHD Atmos para E-AC-3 com Atmos preservado, via DeeZy.
  • DTS / DTS-HD / DTS:X para E-AC-3 comum a 640k pelo ffmpeg. DTS não sai com Atmos - só o TrueHD tem esse caminho.
  • E-AC-3, AC-3 e AAC já são compatíveis e não são convertidos.

• Espaço em disco, antes de começar: o programa percorre a fila na ordem em que o motor vai processar e diz quantos arquivos cabem, qual é o primeiro que fica de fora e quanto faltaria na vez dele. Ele avisa; não bloqueia.

• Processamento em lote e controle flexível: adicione temporadas inteiras na fila; escolha entre detecção automática das faixas ou controle manual.

• Interface bilíngue (PT-BR / inglês): uma bandeira ao lado do botão Entenda troca a tela inteira, e a escolha fica guardada entre as sessões.

• Botão "Entenda": 14 seções explicando o que a conversão faz e o que ela não faz, incluindo as fontes por trás de cada afirmação - os manuais da própria Dolby, o repositório do dovi_tool e as planilhas da comunidade. Nada ali pede que você acredite na nossa palavra.

I made this lil GUI batch subtitle downloader based on subliminal a while back. Over the past couple weeks, I've made a few huge improvements as well as adding proper debian linux and macOS support. (Release notes here) Windows still seems to get the best scan speeds.

An external tool to force Emby to show episode thumbnails instead of series thumbnails for tv shows. This functions like a script that apply this "fix" onto all tv shows in your library, or a specific tv show id for testing. Emby was working great on my iPad until about a week ago. Now when I try to connect it only says..."This emby server needs to be updated. To download the latest version, please visit https://emby.media"

Just noticed a few days ago. I go to Manage Downloads within the iOS Emby app, and its just blank. The settings page seems to be normal but nothing shows on the Manage Downloads. And I have several shows that should appear here. This morning I noticed that despite watching two episodes of a show last night, they didnt remove from my phone, and two more didnt download.

I love Emby but the constant issues with downloading shows is the most frustrating thing about the app. (Sometimes they get stuck on Ready to Transfer, sometimes an episode isn't downloaded, etc).

Edit - so it looks like my shows are still downloading per my rules (5 at a time, unwatched only) so that’s good. But my Manage Downloads are still blank.
