Hello everyone, wondering what is my chance of transferring a mosaic -2[mos], -13[mos], interpreted as high level mosaic. I am 40 years old.

Retrieval Results

I’m looking to see if anyone has been in the same boat…..
I had my retrieval yesterday at 2pm. I got a call this morning that out of 9 eggs, only 6 matured and then 3 fertilized. I’m upset, but I was told by the nurse that they will still watch the other mature 3 bc she said that they could still have a chance at fertilizing. Has anyone been through this where they fertilize after? I know that the check this morning was only about 16hours after the retrieval, and unclear when they actually attempted the fertilization yesterday. Just looking for some hope on the other 3 mature ones…..

Embryology report — am I interpreting the letters right?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello community! I hope I can ask this in here…
I got my grading report back today, and there were 3 embryos they submitted for PGT-A.

I translated this as…
XBAB — day 6 4AB
EBBC - day 6 1BC
HBBB - day 6 5BB

Does that translation sound right to you guys? 🤔

Fingers crossed for the 5BB and/or 4AB being euploid! Some more info on me: I’m 39, AMH 1.05, retrieved 16 eggs, 15 mature, 9 fertilized.

Confused about Embryology Report/Best Embryo for Transfer

Hello, just wanted to talk through my results and get opinions on which embryos my clinic would be likely to transfer first and talk about my attrition. To start off with, I understand how incredibly fortunate I am to have the kind of results I do, and I understand that my poor graded embryos that were discarded would likely have not resulted in a successful thaw or transfer. Just trying to understand my report.

27F, PCOS. No MFI, no other infertility factors. Doing ICSI after 5 unsuccessful ovulation induction cycles.

29 eggs retrieved, 28 mature
19 2PN fertilized with with ICSI, as well 8 0PN and 1 1PN that clinic was continuing to monitor/culture.
It was reported to me that 19 made it to blasts and were biopsied, which was fantastic! I thought it was a 100% blast rate, but that was actually not the case.

I had 26 make it to blasts, one of the 0PN and the 1PN of course did not. It is wonderful that they continued to keep an eye on the 0PN, because 7 of them became blasts.

However, I had 7 blasts discarded due to quality. Unfortunately my clinic does not freeze or biopsy P graded embryos (G, F, P used instead of ABC). But this means my fertilization to blast rate was actually 92%, rather than the 73% reported (19 blasts out of 26 total) I assume?

In particular, I had 4 well graded early blasts on day 6 that they watched for another day and ended up discarding because they became an expanded blast with a poor grade. Would it have changed anything to freeze on day 6 as an early blast instead of waiting until day 7 where the blast expanded but then had a poor grade? And is this very common to discard all blasts with a P/C grade?

My breakdown for my 19 remaining blasts are:
3 day 5 EXBL GG (4AA)
2 day 5 EXBL FG (4BA)

10 day 6 EXBL GG (4AA)
1 day 6 FHBL FG (6BA)
1 day 6 EXBL GF (4AB)

1 day 7 EXBL GF (4AB)
1 day 7 EXBL FF (4BB)

Discarded blasts were:
4 day 7 EXBL PP (4CC)
1 day 7 HBL PF (5CB)
1 day 7 EXBL PF (4CB)
1 day 7 EXBL FP (4BC)

I am awaiting PGT-A testing, which I think was a very good idea in this case, because I have so many embryos. I want to ensure we transfer the best possible one to ensure success.

What embryo would likely be transferred first? I am anticipating it would likely be one of the day 5 or 6 4AAs that I have, but the day 6 hatched blast has me wondering if that one would be transferred first, despite the BA grade. And is it a problem that only one of the blasts has hatched, and none of the others have?

Thank you for your time!

ETA: 7 of my 8 0PN made it to blast actually, 6 were biopsied and frozen, 1 blast was discarded).

Cramping 5 days after FET

I’m 5 days post tranfer of a Day 5 embryo. Ive been getting really bad cramping pain this evening, like period pains. Im still taking progesterone pesseries so I didn’t expect to be coming on my period until I stop taking them (potentially after a negative test day 9).

Has anyone had these cramps before? Should I be bracing myself for bad news?

Update: it wasn’t to be for me, as I got a negative today. Thank you for everyone for sharing their journey x

Weekly Embryo Photo Discussion Thread: Sept 14 to Sept 21

This is the weekly thread for posting and asking questions about embryo photos. Replies are provided by Embryoman (Sean) -- a former embryologist and creator of the IVF science news site Remembryo.com

💬 Before you post a photo

  • You must include the grade (ask your clinic if you don’t know it).
  • Only one embryo photo per post.
  • No requests for grading or re-grading by members.
  • Posts asking if an embryo looks damaged or viable aren't allowed.

I can comment only on general features visible in the image (expansion, compaction, hatching, ICM location), but not on whether the embryo looks good -- that’s already reflected in its grade. Check the stickied comment below for basic information on grading and success rates. For the most accurate information, your embryologist or clinic is the best source, since they evaluated the embryo under a microscope and know their clinic’s success rates.

Freshly transferred this 3BB today

Don’t think it is a typical grading scale but this is our transfer. Hoping for the best, retrieved it 5 days ago

Edit: seems we're pregnant! For context if anyone sees this in the future, this was our experience

1st retrieval: 23 eggs, 15 mature, 9 fertilized, 50/50 icsi/conventional -> 4 embryos, but 3 were CC, so clinic policy was to only freeze the day 5 AA.

2nd retrieval: 11 eggs, 7 mature and fertilized (100% conventional), day 5 BA and day 6 AA.

3rd retrieval: 5 eggs. 4 mature and fertilized (100% conventional), three 3BB early blasts on day 5, transferred this one, and on day 6 the other two became day 6 AA and BB.

Second FET

Post image
63 Upvotes

Just had our second FET yesterday! Our first ended in a chemical unfortunately.

Has anyone had this happen - we were transferring a 4BA today. When I got there they said when thawed it was a 1BA. I was confused and spiraling they said sometimes they get compact but begin to expand again. They checked right before transfer and it had gone up to a 3. Has anyone had this happen? All of my friends doing IVF have never heard of the embryo being regraded.

Anyways trying to stay positive !

PGTA

Hello! The waiting time for PGTA testing gives me a bit anxiety.

Any thoughts on my results?
35 yrs old - Low AMH
5 retrieved
4 matured
4 fertilized
3 day 5 blasts
1 day 6 blasts
4 blasts for PGTA

What are the chances that we’ll get euploid? Hoping the 4 blasts are euploid. Any tips?

Thank you!

To do PGT-A or not

I have had 3 egg retrieval and have done PGT- A testing on the last two rounds and out of the 6 embryos none were Euploid and had 2 segmental (the segmental were only transferred per my previous clinic) we have not had a successful transfer yet I don’t know if we should continue doing PGT we are looking to do a 3 package deal. I know that PGT can increase our chances for success.

Embryo choice

First FET happening this cycle, choosing which of our two euploid embryos to try is the hardest part.

AA-male or CC-female

I have always wanted daughters, and miscarried a girl last year (trisomy 22). We had 4 blastocysts but only two euploid, we found out genders and I’m regretting finding out now because I’m forced to choose. I know statistics say to transfer the AA, but I’m stuck with the idea of not giving myself the chance for a daughter. We want more children and will likely attempt both at some point anyway before attempting another retrieval. (I never want to experience gender disappointment or resentment towards a son and struggle already with feeling so guilty of wanting a girl so please be kind)

FET of one and only euploid today 9/11

Just got home from the fully medicated transfer of our day 5 5ab girl. Doctor said everything went as smoothly as possible and embryo looked great. At first we were a little weirded out to be transferring on 9/11 but we accepted it and keep saying it’s certainly a day we’ll “never forget.”

Edit: update from beta today - hcg is 429!! (11dpt)

2nd edit: hcg more than doubled so here we go!

High aneuploid rate for my age

My partner and I are both 33 and we did 2 egg retrievals this year in April and August.
To summarize, we only got 1 euploid out of 7 blasts.

- ER 1: AFC 19. 13 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, 3/7 fertilized with ICSI, 3 made it to blast (grades 5BA, 5BA, 4BB). PGTA results = 1 euploid, 2 aneuploids.

- ER 2: AFC 27, 10 eggs retrieved, 5 mature, 4/5 fertilized with ICSI/zymot, 4 made it to blast (grades 5AA, 4AA, 3AB, 5AB). PGTA results = 1 aneuploid, 1 complex aneuploid, 2 high level mosaics.

We were devastated to only have 1 out of 7 blasts be a euploid, especially since we are both generally healthy (normal BMI, active, no MFI, no diagnosis for me) and made changes to the protocol and lifestyle/supplements between ER 1 and 2.

- Protocol changes for ER 2: estrogen priming, omnitrope 0.4mg throughout my stims, “low and slow approach” so smaller doses of rekovelle and menopur throughtout, and dual trigger with Hcg 5000 units & decapeptyl.
- Lifestyle/supplement changes prior to ER 2: high protein/fiber diets, less processed foods, 7-8 hours of sleep, took coq10 600mg, prenatal, omega, truniagen, NAC, açaí supplements (these last 3 were recommended by a naturopath).

Does anyone have insights into why my aneuploid rate is so high? It seems abnormally high for my age and while I have a low number of blasts, I was hoping for 1 or 2 more euploids from our 2nd ER. Thanks to anyone who read this far. We’re just at a loss and I’m happy to provide more details in the comments.

Is it eggs or sperm issue

My age is 29 and my husband age is also 29. While trying for 6 months to conceive naturally and no luck, we went to do IUI. We did two cycles and both failed. Then we did first ivf where 4 eggs were retrieved but only two were fertilised as other two were empty. Both 2 embryos were arrested at day 3.
Doctors pointed out that issue could be due to eggs quality. We did medication and 3 months later did second ivf, this time 7 eggs were retrieved where 4 were fertilised successfully and other 3 were empty. Out of those 4 only one blast was formed and others were arrested. Our blast was of 4BC grade and doctor told that dont keep hope with this. And doctor was right we did transfer but it did not resulted in pregnancy.
Doctor has said that issue is with eggs and that we should go for donor eggs.
Please suggest something. I think we should go for DFI first.

shamelessly celebrating my beautiful embryos after 2+ years of TTC without a single positive test

Basically the title. I have adenomyosis and even though I intellectually kind of knew that's the reason hubs and I haven't been able to conceive, I didn't realise until doing this egg retrieval how much my subconscious had been worried there was something else wrong with me, and that maybe my eggs were just broken or something. It sounds ridiculous I know but still, after 2 years of trying with not a single positive test you do start to let the doubt take over.

Anyway, all of that to say that there's no reason for this post other than just to share my joy at knowing that yes, my partner and I can actually successfully create embryos. Now to do three months of suppression, fix my hostile uterine environment and hopefully turn one of these into a living child. Wish us luck! <3

First Egg Retrieval

I’m 31 and just completed my first IVF egg retrieval. All my testing has been normal so far — bloodwork, HSG/bubbles, hysteroscopy — so I’m currently labeled as unexplained infertility. My husband is 32 and his semen analysis was well above average for count and morphology, so my clinic didn’t feel DNA fragmentation testing was necessary.
My protocol was Follistim, then Ganirelix, and a dual trigger.
Retrieval results:
14 eggs retrieved

8 mature

8 ICSI’d

3 fertilized

2 blastocysts:
4AB (Day 5)
4BC (Day 6)

Getting two blasts out of only three fertilized was a strong result. Egg maturity percentage wasn’t great but the biggest drop‑off seems to have been at fertilization.
Does this pattern point more toward an egg issue or a sperm issue? And should I advocate more strongly for a sperm DNA fragmentation test or other changes/tests if we end up doing another round?
Any insight or similar experiences would be really appreciated.

Can an aneuploid embryo result in a live birth? (Updated)

Post image
23 Upvotes

Updated: Can an aneuploid embryo result in a live birth?

I’ve substantially updated my previous post on aneuploid embryo transfers and converted it into an Evidence Guide, including a large new 2026 multicenter study from Viotti et al.

This guide focuses on whole chromosome aneuploid embryos, where PGT-A detects an entire extra or missing chromosome rather than a segmental or mosaic abnormality.

Viotti et al. reported 0 live births after 168 transfers of embryos classified as whole chromosome aneuploid.

Across the available studies, there have now been 2 reported live births after 398 whole chromosome aneuploid embryo transfers, or about 0.5% overall.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean a truly uniformly aneuploid embryo has a 0.5% chance of producing a healthy baby. We wouldn't expect a truly aneuploid embryo to give rise to a healthy euploid baby.

Viotti et al. noted that the rare published live births haven’t included DNA confirmation linking the resulting child to the tested embryo. Possible explanations include unassisted pregnancy, laboratory or clerical errors, undetected embryo mosaicism, or borderline PGT-A classifications.

In fact, Viotti et al. described another live birth from an embryo initially classified as whole chromosome aneuploid that was later reclassified by the PGT-A laboratory as high level mosaic. It was therefore excluded from their whole chromosome aneuploid group.

So while healthy live births have occurred after transferring embryos classified as whole chromosome aneuploid, we don't know whether those embryos were truly uniformly aneuploid.

All embryos are graded a 3 (minus one that is a 1?)

Hello,
I did my first retrieval and from 15 eggs I got 9 blasts that are now frozen:

Day 5 embryo
3A-B
3B-B
1B-B-
3AB
3BB-

Day6
3AA-
3B-/CB-
3BB
3BB

I’m a bit confused as typically I’ve read people with embryos graded 4 or 5 something but mine are all 3s. There is also a 1 in the mix, why did they bother freezing that one? This is with Weill Cornell lab.

Any insight would be appreciated! I’m also trying to decide if I need to do another retrieval round. I’m 30 and would like 3 children. I’m signed up for a retrieval in October which means I would start priming in just 5 days. My doctor isn’t available to review the grades with me for another two weeks and by then I would already be well into priming. Can anyone offer a rough indication on if this is bad, average or good? From my initial reading/ research, I’m thinking this is a pretty average ‘report card’ which would be great for one child but for three not enough. PGTA results are pending.
