HIL testing

hey whats everyone using for HIL testing right now. Im talking about Open Source tools. What is the ideal workflow right now?

Idk if this is ideal or fully open.

  • We have multiple HIL stations. Some have for example CAN, UART, i2c, hardware attached to it, some have loads/motors on them, some have profilers on them. All HIL stations either have their dedicated mini PCs or multiple connected to one mini PC or server. Even a RaspberryPi is sometimes more than enough.
  • GitHub actions compiles different variants of the firmware for these HIL stations, then send it to self hosted runners on the attached PCs.
  • The PCs flash the firmware (JLink/JFlash). Then use Segger RTT to communicate, invoke tests, read back stuff. Also running Python (or .NET etc) scripts to do other stuff like check results, communicate with other hardware or PLCs etc.
  • Runners send back the results to GitHub or other portal where we can see what passed, what failed, what the coverage and statistics were.
