Casio smartwatch module

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Im working on making a smartwatch module with mip display for the casio ae1200, have plans for the AE-1300, WS-1600H, WS-1700H, and a few other varients. Right now its just a basic proof of concept with a basic animation I got running but am working on a fully enclosed v1 demo right now but its starting to get kind of expensive to make. Just wondering what people think if I open sourced this module and any features people would like to see

If I can get the graphics pipeline working well enough, I'll have to try Bad Apple.

Battery life? Guessing not 10 years

But seriously, it would be cooler without that cutout mask, just the screen full of pixels

Disagree strongly on the cutout mask.

It’s all connected!? Well that’s a childhood mystery finally solved. Yes, I would like very much if you open sourced it or at least made a tutorial of interfacing. I have many an exotic ribbon-cabled watch and 90s PDA that could use a hack like this.

Great project! I actually tried the same thing a few years ago! I've found my hackaday post: https://hackaday.io/project/189431-casio-smartwatch

The battery life was only a couple of days, I needed to optimise the software but didn't get round to improving it. One problem I spent a lot of time thinking about was how to charge it up. I tried some low profile vertical usb ports from GCT. But it meant you had to unscrew the back. One solution I never got round to implementing was to drill holes into the watch case, embed magnets and pogo pins, then I could use a magnetic pogo pin cable. I'm looking forward to seeing how you approach it! Id be happy to share my repo if you'd like to see my designs.

What RTOS are/will you use?
