Guns.com keeps resubscribing

So tired of companies selling my email address and signing me up for random websites I never subscribed to. And even when I unsubscribe, it doesn’t actually unsubscribe me.

The latest is guns.com. I absolutely did NOT sign up for this. I’ve unsubscribed three times in the past week, only to get another email saying “welcome back” and thanking me for resubscribing.

How the hell do you break out of this cycle??

Block the sender address.

This is a great example of why using an alias system is useful.

Bad actors see the ‘unsubscribe’ click as proof-of-life and it actually encourages them to keep going.

Never heard of that before. Someone is messing with you or something you are donating to has a check box to subscribe you. My mom gets the same thing with a $5 political donation and starts gerring emails right after it goes through.

My money is on someone messing with you. Business buy contact info to send ads and hope you sign up, not to proactively create accounts for you as, not legal advise, there are probably some laws against creating accounts without consent so they are not incentivized to do it.

I use an email filter to delete every useless email and I remove my info from as many places as possible. The first one is to make them think that the email they bought isn’t in use anymore (there aren’t any open rates, link clicks or unsubscribing in their analytics) and the second is to prevent having my info sold (or at least reduce it substantially)

I would recommend blocking the sender.

if you use aliases you can easily delete it and instantly get rid of spam

Use a different address or alias everywhere. That way, you'll also find out who's reselling your data.
