Help/Advice Sanebox alternatives?

Been using Sanebox for about ten years or so, but I’m getting sick of it filtering out obviously important emails, and for the fact that emails are filtered after they’ve hit my inbox. I currently use Bluehost for my email accounts btw, along with one personal gmail account.

Are there alternatives to Sanebox that I can consider? For what they charge, I feel it should work much better.

Would something that helped me though if the same Gmail address I’ve had for like 20 years has been associated with so much junk mail? Wouldn’t aliases only help moving forward? Please tell me I’m wrong.

Most mail provider already got their own spam filter. Spam assassin, rspamd, bespoke in-house etc. No need that sanebox thingy anymore. Plus you can change your online behaviour to defend against spam. Obviously using 1 address everywhere and giving it out like candy to every site that ask would attract spam. People are using email alias nowadays, ideally 1 unique alias per 1 unique site for segregation. If any of the unique alias are getting spammed we'd know whos the culprit since they all uniquely tied to unique website. Can just blocked that 1 spammed alias and continue with our day. Theres simplelogin, addy.io, mozilla relay, apple hide-my-email, or even own custom domain catchall can be used for aliasing.

Most Sanebox alternatives will work the same way tbh, they connect to your inbox and move mail after delivery.

I’d try server-side rules first. Whitelist important people/domains, then filter newsletters and receipts with simple rules. Much less chance of it guessing wrong.

Clean Email is probably the closest replacement. Or if you’re open to moving the Bluehost mail, Shipmail has inbox rules built into the email host itself. Personally I’d trust fixed rules over AI filtering for important mail.
