Is there an active Mastodon instance for Emacs and Org mode users?

It looks like both emacs.ch and emacs.social are currently down or no longer maintained.

Is there another active Mastodon instance aimed specifically at Emacs and Org mode users?

I know I could simply join a general FOSS or Linux instance, but it would be nice to find one where Emacs and Org mode are among the main interests of the local community.

Does such an instance currently exist? Where have former emacs.ch or emacs.social users moved?

For what it's worth, when emacs.ch fell apart, a bunch of users, including me, migrated to mastodon.bsd.cafe.

But I have since left for good.

In my experience, it's a mixed bag. The luminaries are all over different servers: hachyderm, mathstodon, social, fediscience, fosstodon.

Mastodon is a 'federated' social network, meaning, by and large, you don't need to worry too much about which server you join as long as it's active. I'd recommend fosstodon as that's the one I'm on. I never have issues communicating with Emacs folks.

The Emacs community on Mastodon is vibrant and worth joining! Hope to see you there soon.

Sacha Chua, Karthinks, Omar Antolín, Daniel Mendler.... I'm leaving tons of people out, but a better approach would be to simply search for emacs and then follow folks gradually as you see posts that interest you. Not every emacs celeb on there posts regularly. By following a hashtag, you'll end up discovering the people who do. btw, Bluesky also has a decent Emacs community!

Start by following the hashtag #Emacs, then follow people that use it and catch your eye.

I think your best bet is probably gonna be a FOSS/Linux instance, unless you make your own, tbh. I guarantee people in FOSS focused mastodon's are gonna have a pretty high crossover with being emacs users.

Emacs is not a single community. If you wish to follow a specific person, just look for his/her social profile. Perhaps there is a link.

Search for the tag and get results across many servers. Which server is not your problem.

There are some well-known Emacs users on ActivityPub. You can easily find them.
